Most disappointing game?

Final Fantasy X-2, for sure. I thought it was going to improve the thin storyline and boring combat system of FFX. Instead, it played like a series of sidequests, and the combat system, while it solved the problem of the horrible CTB system, removed summons, which is absolutely unacceptable. Also, you can go anywhere at the beginning of the game, which means that you do a bunch of exploring at the very beginning and it's all old hat after that.

As for GTA IV, the most disappointing recent game, I wasn't really expecting it to live up to all the hype, although I also wasn't expecting it to be worse than San Andreas.

P.S. Unless Spore cures every disease known to man, it won't live up to the hype. It's really kind of unfair to the developers.

EDIT: Ah! I forgot Resident Evil! I don't know why people like that game; it promised to be so good, but it was plagued with terrible dialog and the worst controls in the history of gaming.

SSBB for me, I was a fan boy of melee but now that I finally got to play Brawl, I noticed they should not make promises they can't keep!

I live in Australia and it's still coming in another month, I lost my enthusiasm about a year ago but they could have at least lived up to everyones expectations.

Personally I would have preferred if they were still working on it till it was perfect, I believe I could of made a better Brawl!

ok two things first. portal was good i don't care what u say. It was meant to be short its a filler game thats what they do be short. and second ssbb wasent great but not the worst.

i think the most disappointing is halo three, and 99 dragons which almost none is going to remember but if u did play ull know

Perfect Dark Zero was really a big one for me. Why couldn't they just remake the old game with better graphics and a few extra levels?

Thats the only one i have that really sticks in my mind as really not all that great when compared to the original.

Somehow Team Fortress 2 didn't grab me... and I loved the original...
and Portal was awesome! OK it was short... but still it was basically a Half Life 2 TC so I didn't expect to be long... even if Valve made it.

Not a very well known game perhaps but mine was Stronghold 2.
I loved the original game because of the realistic castle simulation it had.
It also showed a realistic view of the middle ages.

The sequel was a big letdown. It was bugged to death. Even 5 updates couldnt set things right.
I mean, whats the point of building up your castledefenses when the entire attacking army just goes around it just because with their psychic abilities they know one of my walls is bugged. They would pretend to be Jesus, walking over my moat and walk right through my wall, burning down my entire village inside and take over in minutes.

This made it almost unplayable. I have never wanted to finnish it.

Quite a few, mostly newer games. Ho.hum. BFME2, although it did improve on the original the majority of it was just recycled. Shame on me for expecting different from EA >.>.
Bioshock was also a kick in the face. There's...just too much to mention. Easy, poor gameplay and the supposed "choice" in good and evil...pfeh. System Shock 2 ftw. If it doesn't make you cry, it isn't a game to be proud of beating.
And for the record, Portal was awesome. opinions in all honour, but saying anything else than Portal was awesome is a SIN! :p

Resident Evil 4. Leon was an incredible pain in the ass to control. And making him unable to move while aiming was a terrible idea. The shooting was pretty fun, until headshots resulted in parasites coming out of the enemy's head. At that point it seemed like the game wanted you to avoid shooting the head.
No, not really. That was the best game I've ever played, hands down, no competition. The over-shoulder camera angle was just brilliant.

Also, the parasites came out regardless of where you shot. Whenever you'd normally kill the enemy, their head just busts open, revealing the parasites instead.

As for me...

Perfect Dark Zero: The story was stupid, the controls were mind-numbingly stiff, and the game itself was boring. They did absolutely nothing to stay faithful to the original game and it looks like they didn't even try. This game is in no way worthy to bear the title of "Perfect Dark".

Rainbow Six Vegas 2: Confusing and boring. It left me feeling empty to try it after just having played CoD 4 (fucking awesome game btw; all of it).

Mario Kart Wii: They ruined everything there was to love about Double Dash. Everything. Even the graphics (and it's on the Wii ffs).

Def Jam Icon: No health meter, no blaze meter, not nearly as much fun as the originals.

Assassin's Creed. I really hoped for this game. But there are so many design flaws and even what it was hyped (ie, social stealth) ended up being too superficial in my opinion. After the second assassination, I couldn't get myself to do the same thing over and over again.

SSBB: So much hype, so little single player gameplay. It's great fun with friends, but that's it. Also, stop making clone characters.

Spectrobes: "For people who like Pokemon," one of the reviewers or ads, can't be bothered to remember which one, said. "I like Pokemon!" I thought, and bought this horrible excuse for a JRPG. A JRPG . It was horrible by those standards, which have remained the same for 20 years now. Disney can't make games for crap. And movies for that matter.

I bought this one game called Curse: The Eye of Isis cuz it sounded cool and I like Egyptian mummies and that kind of thing. God, what a suckfest. I forced myself to play for a little under 10 minutes and could not continue. But I did buy Star Wars KOTOR on the same day, so it's okay.

From what I have red so far, only a few guys have mentioned DMC 2. That thing was not a game. It was a total disapointment. I did not even get in the process of finishing it. It was the most dissapointing sequel ever. Even Halo 2 is not compared with it when it comes to a letdown. RE4 and Burnout Paradise were from the best of their kind but I cannot say about Bioshock, I do not play FPS so often.

I disagree whole-heartedly with all who say Halo 2 was a let down. The ending was the worst part of the game but even that is not as bad as people seem to think. And besides, even the worst story-line (the Halo games by the way have an incredible story)can be overlooked for truly great gameplay, and Halo 2 had even better gameplay than the original. I am not blessed enough to have played Halo 3 yet so I can't say either way on that one.

For me I gotta say, hands down, Xenosaga 2&3. I thought the first one for all it's oddities and complexities was pulled off nicely, and then when the second arrived I was frustrated and disappointed, but optimistic that number three would fix everything. I've since discovered that it's scientifically impossible to measure how wrong I was on that score. The stylistic changes, the pointlessly changed battle system, and the meandering almost incomprehensible plot just destroyed my original hopes for this series. It disappointed me in almost every possible sense of the word.

Oh and to those who trashed FFX-2...okay, yeah, this game pretty much sucked. It was one giant piece of fanservice. To me though, this topic is about games that built up our expectations and then turned out horrible, whereas it seemed pretty clear to me that FFX-2 was doomed to be horrible from the get go. When I saw the outfit Yuna was going to be wearing for the game I knew something just wasn't right, but then again maybe it's just 'cause I'm a girl and I don't appreciate Yuna in her bootyshorts...I still beat it though. FFX is one of my favourite games storyline-wise, so I wanted to get the secret ending.
