I would have to say "Smackdown vs RAW 2008" for me. I've been a HUGE fan of the Smackdown series since number one years ago. Ever since they introduced the 200# series the main storylines seem to be arching off the fun trail and seem to be fine tuning repetitiveness. With games like Shut your Mouth or Here comes the Pain (Formal installments for those not familiar with the series) there were so many 'random' storylines that it made it new and interesting each time you played through the story mode.

Since it became Smackdown Vs RAW the storylines seem to fall into only 3 options "You want the title, you have the title, or you're not good enough for the title" compared to the hundreds of storylines they had in previous games, even allowing us to challenge for a belt OTHER than the world championship I took for granted in previous installments.

I can only hope 2009 breaks the trend when it comes out.

Bioshock was also a kick in the face. There's...just too much to mention. Easy, poor gameplay and the supposed "choice" in good and evil...pfeh. System Shock 2 ftw.
I agree wholeheartedly. The game had so much going for it but the difficulty (abundance of ammo, vita chambers) and the stupid 'moral decision' betrayed System Shock 2's intelligent design.

(the Halo games by the way have an incredible story)
WRONG

The books are very interesting, and well written, and add depth to the games that simply isn't there. However thats the thing, there is no depth.

I skipped playing 2 after hearing how lame it was universally, and got 3 after several people i had THOUGHT where foolproof in recommending games, and got it when i bought my 360, the halo-hate hadn't set in these people yet so i didn't know what to expect.

What i got was a short game i played through 3 times hoping for some kind of experience that wasn't there.

Other games that dissapointed:

Metal Gear Solid 2. The last section was awesome, and i played it will absolutely piss-the-fuck drunk, and the Colonel going TURN OFF THE GAME RAIDEN made me stumble to my feet to look around and see if someone was playing a joke on me. However the fact you don't play as Snake is unforgiveable even if its vital for the story of MGS4 :(

Also Bioshock, the weapons where ass, and realizing your character was nothing but a simple slicer, and even the awesome characters like Sander Cohen suddenly went incredibly flat once i realized they where just splicers as well, and i got so mad when i realized i couldn't get a drillfist.

I want my drillfist

I bought Halo 3 quite recently, I have attemtped to play the campaign several times, but I just loose the will to fight the enemys, the game is terrible. I dont know what all the fuss about Halo 3 is over. The only reasonable arguement for Halo 3 is that multiplayer is good, multiplayer is not good, multiplayer is ok. However multiplayer isnt very good for small groups of people, you need at least two people on the same team to fully appreciate this feature.

no, not wrong. I've only read 2 of the books and yes they are well written and interesting and do add greatly to the depth of the story, but the story in the games is really good to begin with. I mean, an advanced alien race that holds an extremely primitive religious belief that commands that all non-belivers die, resulting in an epic war-thats good stuff. And you shouldnt knock the story-line of a trilogy if you missed out on the middle part

I thought FFX-2 was alright. I didn't expect it to be anything other than fanservice non-canon fluff. And that's exactly what it was. Advent Children is even more shallow than FFX-2 but no-one complains because it's following FF7 rather than X. Meh.

Anyway, in terms of games I had expected to be awesome and just sucked hard (and I'm a cynical old sod so expect most things to be awful), Oblivion and Next-Gen Madden are easily top. I could probably make a case for Motorstorm too.

Most disappointing game? EVE.. so much potential and it is ruined by the publisher supporting the anti-social predatory behavior of a handful of players who can completely destroy other players characters and positions.

If I want this type of experience, I will take a stroll down Central Park with 20's hanging out of my pockets.

Halo 3: After all the hype from a friend of mine, I decided to rent it, only to find it was hardly the gem he made it out to be. Apart from the music, I really didn't care for it. Then I found The Orange Box, and the WHOLE WORLD WAS AT EASE.

Wow, you make it sound like Iraq propaganda. And really, being a space marine fighting aliens really, really, isn't innovative or deep.

Looks like you missed the doomed romance, the unthinkable betrayal on a galactic scale and its echo a hundred centuries later, and the culmination of a millenia-long quest for redemption.

Halo doesn't have the best story ever in a game, but it does have a damned good one under that shiny, somewhat-derivative surface.

Two Worlds, the first five minutes of lame story made me want to return it. So I did eventually trade it in for Mass Effect.
