This will be about the fifth time I make a post about this movie, but...
The American
Watch this trailer:
Looks pretty cool, right? It got great reviews from critics. They said it's smart, cool, and intelligent. It definitely looks like a film about a suave, cool assassin.
It's not.
The movie is about George Clooney going to a village, then building a gun. That's it. Oh, he takes it apart and rebuilds it a bit. And sometimes he has lunch with a priest, while other times he eats food and watches a Sergio Leone film. At night, he sometimes has sex with a prostitute. Then he goes back to his apartment and builds his gun again, sometimes going to the river to take pictures of butterflies.
Repeat this for an hour and a half. I'm guessing the director realized how awful it was before he released the finished project, and quickly added in a couple of shots of George Clooney walking down alleys and shooting quick glances over his shoulders. The suspense! Especially when nothing happens.
I have never watched a movie I hated more than this. It is the perfect example of a movie that thinks it is more artistic than it really is. It takes itself too seriously. Every single thing that could be a symbol of something is thrown in your face. I wouldn't have been surprised if George Clooney had a tattoo of the word "Symbol" under the butterfly tattoo on his ass.
I really wanted to walk out on this, but my friends wanted to stay. Or maybe they were just asleep.
I give this movie a 1/10. It's the only movie I have given that score to[footnote]Ok, ok. Maybe not the only one. If you want to see another revolting film, check out indie movie "Tarnation".[/footnote]. Usually a bad movie at least has a decent plot, or some action, or it's so bad it's funny. This one isn't. It's just terrible in every single way. There are no redeemable qualities.
