I know that we aren't strangers to messed up stuff in the things we've read or seen, but there's always that one scene that terrifies or just sticks with you over how disturbing it was. So question is what is the most disturbing scene you've seen?

For me, one particular scene from Hunter X Hunter 2011 sticks out for me

Pokkle's death: For starters, the Chimera Ant arc is already messed up to begin with as it includes giant insects rounding up and killing hundreds of people daily so they can be feed to their Queen, those humans who are captured are then chopped up while they're still alive. Pokkle was sort of a recurring character in the first arc, but it's the messed up way that he died that makes me remember him. He gets captured by the Ants, however he's able to negate the Ant's poison with a hidden antidote, but since he can't move about fully, he hides under a giant pile of skulls and the look on his face shows he's absolutely terrified.

Once one of the Royal Guards, Neferpitou detects him, it decides to "pick his brain" to get some information about Nen.

However it was worst in the manga as Pitou opens up part of his head to get to his brain and although it wasn't shown in the anime, after Pitou was done torturing him, you can see Pokkle in the background being repeatedly chopped up

The suicide scene in The Rules of Attraction (no, I can't include a link to it). I saw that film ... several months ago now, and I can remember pretty much every shot in that scene. It's kind of beautiful, but it's also horrifying.

Ah that remind me of that show con (secondary characters get killed off easily especially they were interesting to start of with).
Anyway the one that pop into my mind was in that Eureka 7 episode where they shown the facility where Anemone came from. It was pretty much a mad scientist like lab and they shown several other girls being experimenting in a torture like way. Needless to say it was rather unpleasant for me to watched.

The Hitcher - 1986, starring Rutger Hauer. A crazy hitch-hiker meets a young man and woman.
Young woman played by Jennifer Jason Leigh gets chained up as a human link between a semi truck and its trailer. You never see what actually happens to her, but you do see the semi lurch forward for a bit, then stall, then lurch forward a little bit more.

Just thinking about it is a bummer.

Well, there is a moment in Swamp Thing (Alan Moore's comics) where some men had tried to kill him and apparently they failed, and when he comes back for revenge... Well, one guy was eating a sandwich. The vegetation grew out of his stomach and exploded from within to make this rather messy smiling tree...

By this token, many of the methods Kurama has killed by in Yu Yu Hakusho is a few flavors of this too.

One that gave me the chills was the scene in Looper where a man's past self is having his fingers, limbs and facial features cut off one by one so they're suddenly just disappearing off his future self... creepy as hell.

The opening episode of Attack on Titan. You know the part...

"I GOT THIS GUYS!"

...

[sub][sub]Nevermind let's get outta here kids![/sub][/sub]

One of the best introduction episodes I have ever seen. That moment on its own managed to disturb me and that is something that rarely happens. I laughed at Higurashi back in the day for example. Just the way it goes from badass battle music to dead silence in a heartbeat is creepy as hell.

The 'medical rape' scene from Dance In The Vampire Bund.
-I'm not sure what else to call it.

I've gotta mention the scene in Saya no Uta when she gives her neighbour the 'special vision' the main character has. I'm not going to spoil it anymore because it's best worth experiencing it yourself. If I recall correctly, I read about this exact scene on a thread about VN's and it convinced me to play the game! *glares.*

The whole premises of the short story "I have no mouth and I must scream" by Harlan Ellison, it is just a thousand kinds of messed up, but i can't deny that it is a solid read and gives you something to think about. It's free to read online and if you have the stomach for it, I'd recommend looking it over.

Just about all of "American History X" but there is one particular moment in mind. Edward Norton, a skinhead neo-nazi, catches a group of black men trying to steal his truck. The results of this are...well...horrifying and kind of sickening to even think about...

Edward Norton (Derek) runs outside with a pistol. He fires, killing one of the thieves. Derek is able to catch another one because he hits him with a shot. The wounded thief is dragged out to the curb. Derek curb stomps him (if you're unfamiliar, it's the act of placing a man's teeth on a curb so he's "biting down" on the curb and then kicking him in the back of the head. This shattered their teeth and will likely kill them)

Such a powerful movie and this scene perfectly encases just how violent this man is...

Un Chien Andalou. Basically.

Holy Christ, that was an odd film. What... An odd... Film... What a thoroughly disturbing film. Well worth a spot in the hall of fame. Once I can breathe again.

There was a point-and-click adventure game that were based on that story, too. They're both splendid, and rather terrifying...

The Robin scene in Return of the Joker.

Part 2

Its the dissonance that puts it over the edge. Jokers comedy facade, plus the expectation that this is a Kids show pushes it over the edge.

I'm pretty hard to shock, but there are a few contenders.

The opening scene to Elfen Lied. I was somewhat young when I saw it, so it was pretty shocking. Actually, the whole thing was pretty shocking. It starts off with a naked woman chopping people in half, ripping someones heart out, and decapitating a secretary before using her body as a meat shield. Then it gets worse. She also tears someones arm off. Not cut. Tear.

The ending to The Fly 2. It was a terrible film with a terrible ending. The villain gets turned into some kind of mutated dog thing, and he's kept in a cage for observation. That was just... wrong.

The scene in Higurashi where Mion/Shion whips her dead grandma then tortures a little girl is pretty fucked up.

I remember seeing that scene in the cinema and all I could think when watching it was "Gaww that's freaky as hell," sent shivers down my spine.

The cellar scene in The Road also deserves a mention.

And while old the Chestburster scene in Alien still makes me cringe.
