Do I win? Wait...not that kinda stalker...

...Il show myself to the door
Hahah, yeah. Whenever I hear the word stalker I involuntarily think about the game first. God, I've sunk so many hours into Shadow of Chernobyl. Still have to do a pistols (why thank you "Gordon Freeman", I'll take that) only run on Master difficulty though. Well....maybe a pistols and shotguns and grenades run XD.

The Stalker from Warframe.

Seriously, you're just doing a mission like normal and all of a sudden you hear eerie whispers promising vengeance for all those you've killed. Then the lights flicker, you turn around and he's just THERE.

Wow... I must say, I haven't seen anyone as the OP put down the results of everyone's feedback in a long time.
That was quite generous of you and for that- you have my thanks. Also saves me time trying to remember which could take up possibly 30 minutes or so haha.
Always nice to hear a good ol'fashioned thank you :)

I agree with most of the suggested Stalkers (apart from The Luteces) but my vote has to go to Mr. X from Resi 2, I was damn scared of him as a kid.

noteworthy mention to pyramid head and nemesis, but three others stand out for me

1) the SA:X from metroid fusion. seriously, fuck that guy. it is almost unstoppable, and even when you are 'ready' to fight it its a complete ball buster. those scenes where it appears are terrifying, and true fear rears its head when you get chased!

2) ashley graham, resident evil 4. no matter how many times she gets lost, she never goes away -_- you actually start getting fearful when she's not there, because you might bump into her

3) sheva, resident evil 5. healing potions issue aside, there is one moment that is pretty lame. you have to send either her or yourself up to push stuff off a ledge, but only one can go up. if you send her, she is terrible, sets off the lickers and gets killed, but if you go yourself she's fucking useless and provides no cover fire!!! just... piss off

SA-X I agree with but how are Ashley and Sheva stalkers by any definition? You control when and where they follow you with the push of a button. Hell you can ditch Ashley in a dumpster for as long as you feel like it!

And lastly, Dahaka from Prince of Persia: Warrior Within. That dude was terrifying! And every chase with him was oh so satisfying!
This on does get easily forgotten. One of the creepy things about him is that you could never see how close he was to getting you - since you're too busy fleeing - except in those few cinematic camera angles where you're running along a wall or something. It'd switch to that camera angle and you suddenly get confronted with how close he is to grabbing you. *shudder*

And ofcourse Pyramid Head and Nemesis are a given. Nemesis' stalker tune in particular felt like the fingers of death crawling up your spine.

I'm surprised no one's mentioned Alma, considering how she's the focal point of an entire game. I remember being wary of things like turning around to close the door, shutting off the light or looking into mirrors while I was getting through FEAR

(also, while not exactly disturbing, I thought SS3's pink scorpion deserved mention)

Pyramid Head of course. That bastard was scary as hell, especially in the labyrinth.
When I think of running away screaming like a little girl, I think of Pyramid Head. Every time his presence became known, I found myself more and more on the edge of my seat. He really, really sucks! Which is what makes him so very, very awesome.
What I like about him is that he's never 'announced'. He never arrives with any fanfare (well, he does have a few cutscenes at first), you just enter a room and HE'S THERE. No musical sting, no closeup.

In SH2, at least.
There's even a section of the game where you just stumble into what appears to be his lair. I didn't even know it at first when I got there. It's somekind of circular room where he just walks around, but I didn't catch sight of him at first and unbeknownst entered the next room to see his giant clever lying on a table. That feeling of fear realizing I had just walked into the lion's den...

stalkers/relentless men/women/THINGS that will implacably chase you through a game, or at least large portions of it?
agreed, sheva falls less into it seeing as she 'aids' you in combat, although the fact that she insists on using the ammo i need unless you refuse her any weapons, will never use her magnum or longbow unless as a last resort and will hunt me down relentlessly to waste a first aid spray when i've only taken a slight bit of damage, i'd class her as a stalker. the case is weakened by the fact that she is constantly with you, rather than regularly appearing.

ashley isn't so much of a chaser, but my dislike of constantly having to babysit her and protect her over myself, and even though you can get rid of her by making her hide, sometimes the option isn't there, you can only make her wait where you are (rather than directing her to go up a ledge or something, you have to climb said ledge, hope she doesn't die while you're up there and then make her wait) or follow you around, and when your biggest worry in the game is not the enemies themselves, but ashley's life bar, i'd say that makes her a stalker. not to mention, she's not a constant in the game, but a frequent occurrence.

to be honest, both of these depends on how you view the characters and if you liked their presence, so personal opinion has a lot to do with it. seeing as how non-threats are up there (lutece twins) i'd still class them as stalkers

I wasn't defining 'stalker', I was stressing the relentless qualities of stalkers. The definition implies either stealth or harrassment of the agressive kind, of which Sheva and Ashley provide neither (inasmuch as Ashley can be a pain to deal with sometimes).

but then by that definition, neither do the lutece twins, as they are out in the open and never hiding from you (despite maintaining an aura of mystery), and help you rather than provide aggressive harassment, yet i would still class them as stalkers. conversely due to shoddy AI and the health issues with sheva, i would say she is providing harassment, while not aggressive, harassment nonetheless.

its all in perspective really, if you don't like something following you around, you can class it as a stalker rather than a companion, and i hated ashley and sheva following me around

Nemesis from resident evil 3 has left a lasting impression on me. Might be the fact that you cannot kill him. Well best you can do is waste all your ammo on making him fall down for a nap for like three rooms then suddenly he is kicking the doors down yelling S.T.A.R.S! all over again.

Second for me is Alma from F.E.A.R, Just when you have a temporary escape from the super soldiers (Doing it on Extreme difficulty does make them quite super) you hear Alma's giggling in the background and the lights start to flicker and your radio starts to get the awkward static.

Then again Fettel had his moments too when he forced flashbacks on you and stalked around also.

Torn between G-Man and Ulysses from New Vegas. Both are there without you knowing and both are fun little background pieces that the player can miss without realizing.

Again, just because you find your co-op partner or your escort assignment annoying and perhaps detrimental to gameplay doesn't make them stalkers. Stealth. Duplicity. Harrassment. Agression. They apply none of that. For the intents and purposes of the plot, these people are either helping you or you're helping them, and both characters want to stick together out of their own volition. I haven't played Infinite so I have to trust the people that brought them up and some gameplay clips where Booker seems to despise when they pop up. But I have played RE4 & 5, and I can tell you Ashley and Sheva aren't stalkers. They just follow.

by that definition, i agree that they aren't. but that also means the lutece twins definitely aren't. booker gets annoyed with their presence, but they're on your side and offer assistance. but i (and many others) would say they are stalkers, but under your definition they can't be.

but i only put those 2 up after reading that other friendly stalkers were accepted, had they not have been, i wouldn't of.
