I got really set up as well. I looking to my left when I heard the cry, thinking it was coming from an alley way. I looked forward and it was right in front of me, perfect timing.

Hey, welcome to the Escapist. Have fun :) (not a mod, just always wanted to do that)

OT: Multiple Bioshock moments, but my favorite and craziest was the "dead" splicer leaned up against a control panel in the engine room. Scared me so much I had to stop. Also, the little sisters creepily saying, Mr. Bubbles? Where'd you go, Mr. Bubbles? Whenever you kill a Big Daddy. That got me.

Most disturbing short moment: No Russian. I'm really glad they left it in the game despite the controversy precisely because it IS jarring.

Most disturbing long moment: Amnesia.

Most unforgettable moment: I'm sure I'm forgetting something better (irony), but off the top of my head, "giving the Covenant back their bomb". I realise it's Halo and it's also that it's just a cinematic, but DAAAAAAAAMN.

My most disturbing/unforgettable moment was getting swallowed by the fish in Mario 64

I didn't visit that world ever again

The mannequins make me think about the wheeping angels from Dr Who, they also scare the crap out of me.
The Quake 4 scene never really creeped me out, nor was it disturbing while the SR2 (buddy+car) was more sad than disturbing.
Something that makes me shit my pants every single time is a mission in C&C renegade (which i'm sure nobody knows) A town just got taken over by Nod (the baddies) and while you walk through it shooting at anything you keep hearing women and babies cry, it's disturbing as hell

Lisa's realisation in Silent Hill.

WAY creepy.
Oh yeah. I remember that. One of the only allies that you have in that game, and THAT happens. Definitely creepy, although it took me a while to understand the meaning.

The endings of Assassins Creed 2 and Brotherhood. I don't find gore or cheap scares to be particularly memorable, but the shocks and unexpected twists in that story were pretty memorable.

Lirums death
... in Lost Odyssey.

----

If I had to choose a "disturbing" moment I guess the ending of F.E.A.R 2 was pretty memorable.

I'd have to agree with everyone about Amnesia. I only played the first 2 hours of the game and I was so fucking freaked about the game I just stopped playing, and then my save got deleted so I was like "well, fuck it".

but now these need spoiler tags:

Okay, so basically every time a buddy died in Halo: Reach I always felt for the character. The 2 that come to mind was when George kicks you off the spaceship, I was like "omg George, you fucking badass." but at the same time I felt sad because I knew what he was going to have to do the moment I stepped onto that ship. And, of course, when the chick got shot in the head I was like "WHAT THE FUCK!!! YOU CAN'T JUST DO THAT YOU FUCKING GAME DESIGNERS!!! WHY DO YOU ALWAYS KILL OFF THE MOST LIKEABLE CHARACTER IN YOUR STORY!!! (I'm looking at you, Dexter).

Also, Black Ops. Few scenes in that game made me feel like I wanted to kill every one of the people doing the torture. The scene with the Russian Roulette made me want to shit my pants all over again (and when i say again I mean I watched Deer Hunter and that movie made me cry like a little baby, I admit). Also when the guy gets gassed, and when I realized who it ACTUALLY was, I honestly got so pissed off I just raged and ran through that level like a maniac (on Veteran difficulty mind you, so it didn't go so well).

Of course, MW the Nuke was numbing and the Airport in MW2 was pretty damn disturbing. Dead Space was a pretty disturbing game. Condemned was one of the creepiest games I've played besides Amnesia, the GODDAMN MANNEQUINS made me jump every time I entered a room, and then I realized that some of the enemies act like Mannequins and I was like "oh fuck".

RE4 again, should be always mentioned. That game wasn't exactly scary or creepy, but it was vaguely disturbing to imagine that this is quite possible in today's age of technology.

Most memorable moment in a game though? Not 100% sure. I'd probably say something in the Call of Duty franchise, because those games got me hooked on what environments and epic battles can do to get you immersed into an experience. I get chills every time I play Call of Duty (the first one) and rush in alongside the Russians into Red Square, cheering the entire way while having just a magazine of ammo in your hand. It's those moments where you feel the same way your character would feel, those moments where you relate what your seeing/feeling to reality, that I play video games.

That and completely owning the shit out of 11-year-old kids that think they are so godly at video games. Some part of me just enjoys shutting down 11 yo's dreams.

A boss battle with a naked old man at the end of Amnesia The Dark Descent. It haunts my dreams and makes me want to pour bleach into my eyes to avoid that kind of mental scarring.

If you play as a Dalish Elf in Dragon Age, there's a very unpleasant surprise waiting for you about midway through the game. That and the whole Broodmother thing. Gah.

So I guess this is about stuff that actually offended us now? Then take a moment, any moment, from Modern warfare/2. Seriously, Metal Gear goes 5 decades in series chronology without a single nuke launch, it's one of the most important themes in the series, and then CoD:MW just goes and sets one off. Great. A lot of these moments, taken on their own, are great pieces of interactive storytelling, but taken with the whole, you realize they're all just cynical shocks used to produce fake drama. (TGO originally pointed this out.)

I honestly don't think anything needs to be said, cept "Well that ain't right."

Also, bloodsuckers in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

Yes, that's right, they're invisible until they attack you.
