The sound when you fire the gun and hear clicking as there is no ammo in the clip and there is something coming towards you with intent on seriously ruining your day.

The "pew" sound that the geth sniper rifles in the first Mass Effect, especially on Insane difficulty. It was almost a guaranteed kill too, so you were really hoping that one of your personal bulletsoakers (i.e teammates) happened to block the shoot.
Also the Metal Gear detection noise. I can't tell you how many times I've jumped at that sound.
Another classic is "Nuclear Launch Detected" from Starcraft when you are playing one on one against a terran. Usually this is followed by you shouting "Where is that fucking ghost!?"

The yell of a Fleshpound from Killing Floor as it's about to charge at whoever decided to piss it off. Of course, because of my luck, I'm always the one who gets charged at, even when it wasn't my fault.

The noise when an enemy spots you on Aion, it's disgusting. Especially when you agro an elite and you know he's charging up his ranged attack in the distance, which usually shafts you pretty well. It's even worse who you chain agro and the noise keeps going off. Eugh, the Half-Life 2 rocket noise is nasty too, you hear it and you're like 'hmm wut?', then half a second later you shit bricks as it blows your face off.
Either the crit sound in TF2, or the good old metallic *tinkle* of a grenade by your feet.

The sound of Pyramid Heads' knife scraping across the floor in that area near the end of Silent Hill 2 (before you find Angela and kill the Large Daddy or whatever it is) because the area is just a large circle.
