The STALKER sound track is downright depressing but imagine this:
Play the track

You alone, underground, searching an abandoned laboratory, your completely alone other than the occasional horiffically mutated thing jumping out at you or trying to melt your brain just by thinking about it. The metal pipes around you are creaking and it sounds like somthing is trying to smash its way though the door to your right, which is the door you have to go though. You know this but sreach for another entrance anyway, in the vain hope there might be one, eventually you pluck up the courage, open it and find that there is nothing on the other side at all.
That game is total immersion and you dread to hear almost anything that isnt human.

The re-dead sound in the Legened of Zelda games. My goodness when I first saw one when I was little I couldn't cope with playing the rest of the game.

This song, because it usually meant there was one hell of a fight on its way.

Re-deads scared the crap out of me as a child, the sound they make has always creeped me out @_@

I think the same goes for this dungeon. Because who DIDN'T dread the water temple? -_-

For me it would have to be the Sonic the Hedgehog running-out-of-breath jingle.
Second to that would probably be Sephiroth's theme
Third the Silent Hill air-raid horn that bellows when the world is about to switch to the dark-side.

legend of Zelda orcarina of time, the music when an enemy pops up, also the redead's scream. Not scary anymore, but when i first bought the game when i was little for the N64 there was an already saved file that was saved in the main kingdom just after everyone is turned into redeads. My previous game experience was pokemon and paper mario so taking two steps, hearing the scream and seeing the guy jump on me, scared the heck out of me and i just shut the game off. Other than that, the sound of the machine screwing up.

The Arch-vile alert sound in Doom II
Thankyou. Yes, that. I've found Doom II sounds effects in some strange places. The sound the posessed humans make when they see you is also the Camel's version of "Yes, sir?" in Age of Empires, and the sound an Arch-Vile makes while it's running around looking for you is the sound of the zip on the tent next to mine going up at five in the morning. Talk about waking up fast. $#!+!!!

A more recent one:
At 0:10 ... 0:36 ... 0:57 ... 3:35 ... 4:16 ... yeah. That. It's not so scary in retrospect, but at the time, on the first play through ... that.
