My most embarrassing fear is I'm afraid someone is always going to start following me when I walk up the stairs at night. I don't know why but because of it i have to take off running up the stairs, fallen face first a few times.
Oddly enough, one of my scariest recurring nightmares (I haven't gotten it in years but I remember it from childhood because it was so scary) is that I'd be walking down a staircase. As the time came to turn for the next level I'd look up, and see two 'twins' who looked exactly the same, except one was taller than the other, with blank faces, just standing there. I'd walk faster, reach the turn, look up, and they'd be there. I'd run, look up, and there they'd be. It always freaked me out because somehow they would keep up without ever moving.

My most embarrassing fear is bugging out over being the vicinity of fast, small animals, or slow, lumbering large ones: I hate insects and little lizards because they squirm and sprint with their grotesque little quick jerks, while I'm totally cool with lobsters or spiders that move in elegant, slow manner. Also, every time I'm in deep water I imagine a giant squid or blue whale somewhere near in the water, just swimming on by and I make a beeline for dry land.

Eh, I'm 18 and still afraid of the dark. Well, not really the DARK per say, but just the feeling that I can't fucking see if anything is stalking me. Whenever I'm alone in the dark (No pun intended), I get that fucking feeling that something's about to just run up and attack me.

Hello all.
This thread prompted me to sign up; I just felt like sharing my story basically.

So here goes.
My fears themselves aren't all that odd, it's just that they're triggered by other fears. Perfect example is my fear of pain. I will go to absolutely irrational lengths to prevent any pain or harm upon myself and it's rather tricky to deal with at times. This in turn sparks a fear of the dark - because it is easy to get hurt in the dark - a fear of any creature capable of causing harm, a fear of ... well basically anything capable of hurting me.

So yeah, I'm pretty manly :p

P.S. PLEASE don't call me a racist, but I am mortally afraid of black people in gangs. No idea why, they just make me impossibly uncomfortable. On their own, or in pairs, fine, I can even be friends with them. But not in a group.

I have petty fears like spiders, dark rooms with mirrors a la the OP, and my basement. But then there are those awe-inspiring terrors due to sheer magnitude. For me, those are the Ocean, Space, and Death. The three final frontiers that humanity has not conquered.
