First, NO SPOLIERS, if you really have to do it, make sure to use spoiler tags with [ spoiler] [ /spoiler] test it in preview beforehand.

Now I have just finished, about 30 seconds ago, watching Code Geass R2 and I have to say it is single handedly the most emotional ending I have seen in an anime to date, so what are yours?

(I would of liked to add a poll, but I imagine I could not have gotten enough series in :p)

EDIT: Have to decide between soul eater and FLCL to watch next now :p

Mine is Code Geass R2 as well!

It's so heroic that Lelouch should die to save the world and yet be remembered by it as the demon, by all except Nunnally, Suzaku & Kallen (though I guess they're the people who really count). One of the main things that makes it, for me at least, so beautiful and emotionally resonant is the perfect music of that scene and the sounds of Nunnally's howling over the chants of 'Zero'.
You're happy that all is well watching it, but the cost of all being well is nothing short of tragic, let alone the way it's all staged. All in all, this is the most emotional ending of an anime I've watched to date!

Angel beats for me. Since its practically clichéd to mention clannad: after story at this point.

Its a wonderful way to end a short but whirlwind ride of a series, seeing each main character bow out gracefully is rare. But the final scene is a real heart ripper. Then dat music... I was inconsolable for a good few hours. A nice touch after the credits goes a long way to soothe the wound.

If you haven't seen it yet I highly recommend it. It has a perfect blend of action, comedy, drama and romance.

Angel Beats, Toradora and Clannad after story.

People are always giving Clannad shit for the ending just because it isn't Dark and angsty[sup]TM[/sup], but I think it did a really good job of conveying the underlying message.

I am going to go with Berserk and FLCL, even though Berserks wasn't technically the ending.

Seirei no Moribito's ending was very bittersweet.

Balsa saves the young prince, but they have to say goodbye because he's the future emperor and thus can't be associated with her.

I'm with you on that, but R2 gets a helluva lot of grief around here... and I really wonder why. I liked it...

Now start reading the light novels... lots of growing up in those plus their own lot of emotional rollercoasters.

OT: Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 - the only anime that made me full on cry at the end.

Haibane Renmei - not the ending per se, but the lead up to the ending. Heart-rending stuff...

Yup, Code Geass without question. QQ

Also Higurashi No Naku Kuro Ni Kai is up there. Finally breaking the cycle after a whole two seasons worth of death and despair. It's pretty fucking good

Gurren Lagann even though Episode 7/8 is the most emotional thing ever created the ending episodes are really good as well.

I suppose Clannad would be up there... If I ever want to wreck myself emotionally i'll go back to it >.<

Really? FLCL? What's emotional about that? Not much really happens, it just ends.

OT: Avatar: TLA. There's nothing really unexpected or unusually emotional that happens. It's just the perfect send off to a fantastic story with amazing characters.

Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind and Princess Mononoke also hit me pretty hard too.

Well the whole conclusion is a epic fight over societal pressures and what his own personal feelings and how he struggles to find a middle ground in a fight so much bigger than himself only to realize he doesn't really need to chose sides and should live the life he wants to live showing a huge emotional growth where he goes from a boy to a man and truly reaches maturity. I dunno I thought it was pritty good.

Also Avatar isn't anime since it isn't Japanesse but nit pick aside it does really belong with Anime and it really did have a good ending.

Probably Cowboy Bebop for me. Also, it wasnt the very end but towards the end Trigun had a moment that kind of choked me up.

I know it's already been mentioned but the ending to Angel Beats was amazing, especially the final shot. I loved that anime from start to finish.

It also give me my new favourite Japanese female band, Girls Dead Monster.

Yeah, those two pretty much sum it up for me; although the were plenty of moments, ending included, that choked me up whilst watching Fullmetal Alchemist. So. Many. Things.

This, as well as Bokurano, a series which way more people should watch.

First of all, everyone dies, but that was revealed in episode 6 so whatever. More importantly, Ushiro sacrifices himself instead of becoming the next Kokopelli, so his sister doesn't have to pilot Zearth and die.

Texhnolyze broke me. I still remember that day. I was meant to finish it off, by watching the last 2-3 episodes or whatever I had left and then do some work for uni, but it made me feel so down, I didn't do anything at all.

The ending of Fuuko's arc in Clannad.

The rest of Clannad can pretty much go fuck itself. Especially After Story, what with its distinct lack of Fuuko (and Tomoya being Parent Of The Year, ugh).

Why yes, I do love Fuuko, why do you ask?
