I find this thread's lack of Hans Zimmer disturbing.

I can't stand Zimmerman for the most part. His music just goes no where. It's too heavy if you listen to it without an accompanying scene. It's like listening to a child tell a story he just keeps going and going never pausing never tieing one piece of his story to the other in any neat ways just goes on and on for the sake of keeping your attention and it overwhelms the listener eventually. Clint Mansell does what he does except better I'd take him over Zimmerman.
It's Zimmer, not Zimmerman. There's a very big difference. One is an Oscar winning composer [http://www.cinemasight.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/hans-zimmer.jpg] while the other isn't [http://img2-3.timeinc.net/people/i/2012/news/120423/george-zimmerman-300.jpg].

And funny you should complain about his music being 'too heavy'. A whole lot of his work is slower, mellower pieces. This thread however asked for epic dramatic music, and his louder works often convey epic a bit better (not saying that his mellower slower pieces aren't/don't convey it, I just figured that the louder ones would go over better here).

(I'd fish out more, but YouTube is being iffy on loading videos. Some movies that have great mellow pieces include Black Hawk Down, Inception, and Gladiator.)

I'm not saying that you're opinion on his work is wrong, but I just felt like pointing a few things out to clarify (hell, his mellow songs really help in calming me the fuck down).

P.S. - Run on sentences are not your friend.

Don't know why I said Zimmerman >_>. Anyway I know he does mellower stuff but all of his action music is dull which is what he's known for by most people.

oh and I suppose I should contribute and since I mentioned Clint Mansell I'll link my favorite of his.

If you want epic, nothing beats some good old power metal.

However, a maybe something that has a bit more pacing to it

Those are best heard as exactly in that order, without the pause in between videos. Sorry to say I couldn't find a video with them combined on Youtube. Though, two more that I'd say stand quite well on their own, and then I'm done posting.

By the way, if you couldn't tell, I'm quite a fan of both Blind Guardian and Coheed and Cambria

Was the Alone in the Dark reboot a masterpiece?
Hell no.
Did it have some of the most memorable and epic music in a game?
You bet it does.

At some points, it even drowns out the bad gameplay, like with that giant boss fight in the museum. It would have been utterly forgettable and dull if this song weren't blaring in the background.

(Eh, it's sorta symphonic/classical. Ok, the intro is. Close enough, really.)
Pfft, the entire song is symphonic/classical :p! After all, the genre is called 'symphonic metal.' Good to see another Rhapsody fan in this thread.

I honestly cannot contribute anything that's not from an anime anyway but what the hell.

A lot of people remember her for the jazzy stuff she did in Cowboy Bebop, which is good, but her work on the soundtrack to Genesis of Aquarion (great show that everyone should watch by the way, it's like the most wonderful fusion between Gurren Lagann and Evangelion) is just wow. Also Escaflowne was posted already so...

Kajiura's works were always great, having a really unique sound, but they honestly were starting to sound pretty similar to one another. She really showed her range with Fate/Zero though, absolutely amazing

Sagisu's pretty famous for Evangelion, which is always weird to think about when I think about the quality difference between that and Bleach. Bleach as a manga and anime has kind of gone to shit but my god is the music awesome. He really stepped it up a notch for the movies too.
Also the only times I've ever heard the dramatic choir singing in English as opposed to either Latin or a made up language.

I loved this guy's work in Gundam Unicorn, and while I thought Guilty Crown kind of, you know, sucked, I watched it anyway to hear the music, until soundtrack was released. Then I just got that and stopped watching the show.
A weird overlap between anime and something I'm sure more of you are familiar with. As far as I know this song came out with the Halo Legends collection of short films since the only use of it relating to the games appears to be a trailer for a Reach map pack.

Finally

I like Gurren Lagann. I like alot of these entries even. But none of them moved me quite like this, the soundtrack to Heroic Age.

On the whole, the music is an important contributor to this epic space opera.

Requiem for a Tower.
Your argument is invalid.
Isn't that just Requiem for a Dream? It says in the description it's a "more powerful and dramatic version" of it but I didn't hear much difference.

Although it appears I have been ninja'd by someone who appears to have the wrong name.
From Wikipedia:
"Requiem for a Tower" is a version of Clint Mansell's Lux Æterna/Requiem For A Dream, re-orchestrated with a choir and full orchestra for a The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers theatrical trailer.

There is a difference.
Still sounds the same to me friendo. Maybe one of the versions I listened to was wrongly named because I honestly can't tell the difference. I still haven't seen Requiem for a Dream so maybe all the versions I know are the Requiem for a Tower version.

Since I don't think any list of epic music is complete without Immediate music:

Some more Yuki Kaijura wouldn't go amiss

And some more Hans Zimmer
(Personal note, I was already a fan of his epic music on The Rock and Peacemaker, when I found out that this song I'd been listening on repeat was also his. My reaction was "Wow, is all cool movie music ever written by Hans Zimmer or something?"

Here's a bit from E.S. Posthumus.

This one deserves some mention too.

Well, that's enough, now to check out some of the other contributions. I've been looking for more playlist fodder.
