I think that we all have one. One scene that stands out from all the rest. I was 11 when I saw this for the first time and it still give's me goosebumps.

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring

Luke going down the Death Star trench in A new Hope is a close second but I was very young at the time (6 years old)

The most epic scene that I can remember off the top of my head is the White House (and LA) being blown up in 'Independence Day'.
A close second is anytime the Rohirrim charged in the 'Lord of the Ring' movies or the Beacons of Gondor being lit in 'Return of the King', though I was in my teens when those came out.

Keeping in spirit with the day, I really love the opening to A Nightmare before Christmas.
Particularly everything from Jack getting introduced to when he rises out from the fountain. All that fire and stuff, shit's so cool.

Jurassic Park came out when I was 10.

So... The whole damned movie.

I'm at work, so I can't start searching for scenes... but I love the kids and Alan in the field when the T-Rex interrupts the stampede. ... And basically the whole movie. Except for the canister and spitty-dinosaur parts.

Also... kitchen scene.

This was the first thing I thought of:

But the scene from Jurassic Park where the lawyer gets eaten off the toilet...

And pretty much any of the scenes of Burt being Burt from the Tremors series might also count.

It's really hard to choose.

The Matrix came out when I was 9 and my dad took me to see it.

The action scenes in that movie were pretty much the definition of epic for me when I was little.

It's also the movie that started my fascination with firearms.

Well, I'm going to also go with Jurassic Park, because, like all young boys, I thought dinosaurs were the coolest things that had ever existed (and am still pretty annoyed that they got wiped out before I got a chance to play with them, I want a pet Raptor, dammit). Anyway, my favourite scene was the car chase:

Also, the ending where: (Spoilered in case you haven't seen the movie. . . and, while we're on the subject, if you haven't seen it, WHY THE HELL NOT? IT'S GODDAMNED FANTASTIC. SERIOUSLY, GO WATCH IT!)

Mrs T.Rex storms in and saves everyone from the raptors at the last second, letting off a mighty roar as the banner falls. You know, this part:

Though, looking back on it, I've no idea how the hell Mrs T.Rex snook up on them, or even got in there for that matter. But still, totally epic.

Damn Jurassic Park is awesome. And I don't know which sound engineer put together the T.Rex's roar, but damn, he deserves all the praise and all the money that can be thrown at him. It's the most epic noise ever.

My memorable scene from my childhood? Hmmm I remember a few scenes that scared me. The T-rex at the very end of Jurassic Park, the clown scene from The Brave Little Toaster, the scene where Snow White goes through the forest and almost gets killed by the huntsman, I remember Ursala in the finale of The Little Mermaid scared me. Jeez I was a freaking chicken.

The awesome scene though I think would have to be either the son of man montage from Tarzan, the hero montage from Hercules, or when the Iron Giant freaks out during The Iron Giant.

The duel between Inigo and the Man in Black from The Princess Bride. I was about 6 the first time I saw it and was blown away. Still my favorite movies and one of my favorite scenes: its not just a great action scene, it also has a great sense of humor.

The final lightsaber duel of Return of the Jedi, which was actually the only one I saw in theatres. Gospel chorus before it was cool, a battle waged for the soul of Luke Skywalker as well as the future of the galaxy. Ending with a great villainous breakdown if ever there was one.

From watching on VHS: The entire movie of the Neverending Story... or this scene from Cool Runnings...
That was basically my pep talk during elementary school...

From watching in a theater: The entire movie of The Iron Giant... or Wizard's Chess from the first Harry Potter movie...
Glob, I fucking love Chess... even though the last part, looking back, had a few move flaws...
(Don't care! IT'S FUCKING CHESS!!!!)

I must have been around 7 or 8 when I snuck into the TV room very stealthily to go watch Alien.

I had to wait for everyone to be asleep, so I missed the beginning. When the TV lit up, some random dude was coughing, people were eating spaghetti. About twenty seconds later, I turned off the TV, snuck back to my room and went to cry myself to sleep under the cupboard in the corner.

Hat tip to H. R. Giger and everyone involved. Hardly anything in life scared me that shitless ever again.

When I was a kid, back in the 80's, we used to have a station that would play old movies late at night or on the weekends. It was the best. I fell in love with Alfred Hitchcock's 'Psycho'. Another B&W movie they used to show was 'Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte'. I think that movie scared the crap outta me more than 'Psycho' did. I watched it a few years back, and, unlike 'Psycho', it didn't really hold up as well as the former. I think it made a bigger impression on me as a kid, just because it was the thought that people you love and trust could turn against you so cruelly.

I've got three, all from the same movie.
What can I say, I enjoy the Turtles. It's still a great film.

Terminator 2 oh my god how I loved and still love that film. Easily the best action film of my childhood and probably still one of my favourites to this day. THAT'S A DAMN MINIGUN!
