What is the most epic song based on any kind of history?

My vote goes to Megadeth for --

DEVIL'S ISLAND

Based on the French prison island.

What are your choices?

I'm gonna have to go with this one - I can't help but think of it when I hear the word "epic".

Well, it would have to be one of my favourites from Manic Street Preachers.
I love that song. I used to listen to it over and over while playing Oblivion.

Depends. If the Trojan War counts, I nominate "<url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=snwvpJ7DxyY>And Then There Was Silence" by Blind Guardian.

Otherwise, I guess I'll give a half-hearted recommendation to "<url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g9822KMCeA8>Age of False Innocence," which is about Galileo.

Pretty much anything by Manowar, although I guess the historical validity of their lyrics could come into question... They're still epic though.

Or you could go with "Alexander the Great" by Iron Maiden. It's pretty much a fucking sung history lesson on the man.

Whenever I hear the words 'epic song', I instantly think of this song:
Based on the Battle of Paschendale during WWI.

Seeing this song live was amazing.

One by Metallica. It's about history I think... Well, sort of. I believe it's about a book that's about the Vietnam War.
