the ending of the Courtyard Comic from Alan Moore... that was so fucked up. and seen, in a movie it would be District 9 wierd funny ending, and in a game it would be the end at Mafia 1, where you don't expect the outcome of your actions.

Not just the ending but the ENTIRE FUCKING THING: Requiem for a Dream. If you have seen it you know how fucked up it actually is.
That movie will be my punishment if I ever have kids and catch them with drugs. It's a great movie; however, I was seriously traumatized.

The book The God Project was something I had to read in 10th grade. I remember the thinking there was going to be this nice happy ending that turned into this awful and a little unsettling ending.

There's a lot more books than movies that have freaked me the hell out.

End of Evangelion.

Just.... if you've never seen it, you have no idea.

I'm probably more disturbed in life simply because I watched that movie.
The cut off ending doesn't help either :0 Just leaves you hanging.

I watched End of Evangelion when I was thirteen...

It... changed me... I can't explain it, but man, that is one fucked up end of a show.

Yes, I did understand it in its entirety at the time too.

EDIT: And, because I must...

You can't break those cuffs! [http://www.cuffs.ytmnd.com/]
Bokurano, which is a kind of similar anime, is way more messed up than Evangelion, way more.

And since you didn't say it couldn't be the ending of a scene, I'd say the part in Catcher in the Rye where Holden gets beaten up by a pimp.

Also, not exactly fucked up, but the events leading up to the end of the Clannad After Story are pretty depressing.

The ending of Level 7.

WW III occurs, lasting a total of 2hours and 58minutes, with the entire world covered in radiation. The war is found to have been caused by complete accident, and the result of automated retaliation systems (the lowest form of retaliation being 2,000 ICBMs). The two factions establish communications from their most secure bunkers (4,000 ft below the surface), when suddenly they lose communications. Several days later, their nuclear power plant starts malfunctioning, and the whole base slowly dies of radiation poisoning.

Martyrs. Terrible terrible movie. Fantastic if you love torture-porn and watching people suffer. I suppose the end was creatively intelligent but it was fucked up nonetheless.

The Chocolate War by Robert Cormier. It seemed to be a book about overcoming adversity and being an individual, right up until the end where the main antagonist is publicly beaten by a classmate in front of the entire school and the kid who set up the beating gets off scott free, in spite of the fact that the teachers knew all about it. What's worse is there's a sequel and the antagonist still gets away with being the spawn of Satan with no repercussions. And these books are taught in our classrooms.

'Star Wars The Force Unleashed'. Both endings. In the good one you die, and in the bad one you live horribly. *spoilers*

Drakengard...or at least SOME of its endings were pretty messed up.
Darn it all. I was going to bring this up. However, if you're looking for your nightmare fuel, Drakengard's fourth ending... Oh gawd.

It starts at 2:27... [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EyaTNFrxkh8] and ends never, because it will never leave your mind. NEVER.

The "Hope" Series by David Feintuch. concerns a character in the navy who is a complete bunghole, but believes himself to be a bastard for all the wrong reasons (i.e. not the reasons he is actually a bunghole). He never tries to change what he believes is wrong with himself- I don't think he believes it is possible to change. The series is 7 (or 8) books long, I barely got through 2 1/3 before giving up in disgust because the main character never changes. And he's all EMO about it, too.

For the sake of originality (in this thread at least), the last half hour of Splice is pretty fucked up. Moreso than any other recent film I can recall.
