Halo 3
Bioshock
Borderlands

Those are pretty clear standouts to me. Halo reach could count too. I haven't played Bulletstorm or Team Fortress 2 and Just Cause 2 and Vanquish are both third-person.

If you asked in a month my answer would be Serious Sam 3.

Otherwise, uhh... probably Borderlands & L4D2.

I'm going with the Bulletstorm crowd on this one. That game was a lot of fun.

Runner up for me would be Halo: Reach's multiplayer.

Definitely Halo Franchise. primarily the online custom games. i have never laughed so much in my life as i have during those hours.
i have yet to play some other fun shooters, like bulletstorm or anything. but my runner up had to be the solid half hour of playtime with the Crysis 2 multiplayer beta.

How has no one said Painkiller yet? That game is like the embodiment of fun.
Wait, by this generation, do you mean in within the last ten years, or with this generation's standards (chest high walls, limited weapon slots, regenerating health, etc.)
If that's what you mean, then my answer goes to (drum roll) NOBODY! Because cover based combat is pretty much the opposite of fun.

Alot of people seem to misunderstand the term fps (first person shooter) which worrys me.

OT: its either call of duty modern warfare or halo 3/reach

Left 4 Dead, Borderlands, and Far Cry 2 (seriously).
I know a lot of people were disappointed by Far Cry 2, but I personally thought it was great.
Trying to take out an entire base worth of goons without any of them seeing you gave me some of the most fun I've ever had in an FPS.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

Just something about watching some poor clueless guards and debating the best way to take them out silently and without anyone seeing...

Just plain fun? I hate to say it, but Halo really wins out for me, then. Rocket launcher deathmatches, Snipers, OP pistols, that sense of excitement when you came face to face with a pair of hunters... All of it combined to make a franchise that's been fun, despite the amount of hatred that it gets.

I remember playing the halo trial in a sixteen person LAN match during science classes at school, and damn, it was fun. No matter how impressive, thought provoking, disturbing or twitch based other recent FPS games have been, I don't think that anything else really comes close. What they manage is *excitement*, or immersion, but not much fun.

That said, I always enjoy playing TF2, so there is that.

I'm voting for TF2. After several years and almost 2000 hours devoted to the game, I have to say, it's the closest thing I've ever had to a perfect multiplayer experience.

Crysis 1 for it's "Fucking around" potential with suit functions. Which is why I'm sad they're using Cryengine 3 for the console version. It just wont be the same...

my vote goes to Vanquish
I second that i loved that game i hope they do a sequel. Since Vanquished was taken i suppose mine is MW2 i was entertained enough to still play it quite a bit to this day. Just hope they bring back AC-130 mission in MW3!

TF2. It is just a blast all the time. Jump on a good server and waste an hour or two dying every 30 seconds and trying to take a few of the others with you. It is tons of fun. I really should play it some more, it has been a month or two.
