...and no one has mentioned Portal? My god, what is wrong with all of you? Or would that somehow be considered "last generation"?

That said, am I the only one who's found himself playing through the CoDs and BBCs (that's Battlefield Bad Company, not British Broadcasting Corporation) and MoHs in something akin to a foggy haze? It's eerie how they've all sort of just gelled together into one amorphous mass of a memory to me. It's not even fun anymore, just sort of "that's happening, do this, press this, shoot that, cutscene, objective, talk, shoot, loading screen, shoot, die, loading screen, shoot, run, talk, shoot, cutscene, die, cutscene, shoot, drive vehicle, shoot, run

and now even that's getting repetitive and hazy...

First, define "this generation".

Second, define FPS. Is Human Revolutions a FPS? What about New Vegas? Can we really compare those games to, say, Serious Sam?
First
Person
Shooter

You shoot things from your character's point of view. Don't try to add depth to a topic which has none, which is something that I can definitely say the majority of The Escapist is guilty of. If you weren't trying to, sorry to nitpick.

OT: Human Revolution is up there, but L4D2 and Halo: Reach were both my jam. CoD 4 was fun when it didn't have so many hackers, Crysis 2 was pretty good, and Bioshock was downright amazing.

Most fun has gotta be Borderlands. Playing through the entire game with my brother was some of the most fun I've ever had playing a game.

Single Player award goes to Half Life 2.

TF2
The homicidal joy I get from mowing down half a team as a heavy never gets old.

Borderlands

Borderlands is great fun

As for most fun game I have to say tf2, it was the only game so far this generation that set it self out to be a fun fps and succeed to do it.

Fallout 3 and NV
Don't want to knit pick, but Fallout 3 definitely can't count as FPS, because FO3 was all about using VATS.
Unless you use one of the numerous mods that adds ironsights or exchanges VATS for bullettime.
That's like saying "Oh, Alien Swarm is a FPS because there's a console command to let you use it!"

It isn't.

Honestly, I'm gonna have to go with Legendary.
While the game had an incredibly dumb story, bad AI, bad writing, some bad (but fun) glitches and such, it was incredibly fun to play just for the mindless action. All of the "bad" parts added up to a criminally entertaining game that I love revisiting from time to time. Gunning down werewolves and minotaurs is more fun than you'd think.

Necrovision was also a lot of fun (when I got it to run properly on my computer.)

I did not, while it was an okey game I fail to see what people loved in it, it got so boring so fast ._.

It depends what constitutes an FPS. From more "classic" FPS's I'd say Bioshock, Team Fortress 2 and Bulletstorm. If basically everything constitutes I'll say Portal and Human Revolution.

The whole of the Call of Duty series. Most people would say they aren't fun but for me the fun comes from beating tough challenges and they are certainly that on the veteran difficulty.

Pretty much every other FPS has been too easy for me to call fun.

Edit: Call of Juarez: bound in blood was good too
