Shouldn't this be "average" rather than generic? Generic means belonging to a genre, after all, and since when are there genres of people?

I'd say generic sums it up pretty well. Average would be a good word too, but it's a little... average? Generic just makes you sound plain and ordinary, and average makes you sound... plain... and

i wear pretty outragous clothing listent to music from many genres and get described by others as a 90s indie goth, i recognise that despite this the most generic thing about me is my sparodic belief in my individuality, my uniqueness.
also i have dyslexia, it seems like everyone does aswell these days.
