"OHMYGOD YOU'RE A GIRL AND YOU PLAY VIDEO GAMES?!"
Goddamn moron. Never happens on the internets though, praise the lord.

"All new video games suck. The golden age is over. I hate the new generation of video gamers, etc. etc. etc. And you can't disagree with me, because I'm a a more 'hardcore' player than you."
Just an overall douche-y and elitist opinion that irritates me.

Someone on these forums said not too long ago that all gamers were fat, sweaty losers who lived with their mothers after graduating college and had no social skills. So that guy.

I do believe heard someone talking about how games were a waste of time and anyone who played them was a loser.

Said person, of course, was in the middle of a match in MW2, I think he had prestiged yet.

Video games being "conclusively linked" to any high-profile crime in the media always gets my eyes a-rolling. Our passion is the new rock and roll is the new jazz is the new comic books is the new cartoons ad nauseum. I try not to take it too personally.

And this isn't about gaming in general, but a persistent comment I get from (a certain subset of) people is that video game music is nothing more than "dumb techno" and "random beeps." I understand that few people in the general public will "get" why I'm into game music, but someone getting on my case about it in an otherwise civil conversation is just jarring.

Obviously I don't hear this as much online, because this is the Internet and we are all nerds (or geeks, or dorks) - but it still bugs the pants off me whenever it happens. One notable time was back in college, and I had the FF6 soundtrack playing while I was pretending to listen to the guy's opinion on my tastes.

Well, I brought up Dragon Age: Origins a few times in a conversation, most of them have never played it, one says it's shit without even playing it and the other called it a power ranger game and I spent 10mins trying to explain to this girl who actually thought I played power ranger games that it was an RPG (the title of the game dragon age made her laugh as if I was a geek but still, I don't like the title of the game)

I don't know if that counts but meh.

my beloved mother "you know video-games are the reason that you dropped out [of college]!"

my beloved grandmother "you know video-games are the reason that your back hurts!"

i dropped out because i cant do math, and when i got to the end of my first year they told me just that and that i needed to take the year over (i also failed Chinese).

my back hurts because i got a bone condition, i consider myself to speak fluent English but there are a few words i dont know yet, most of these words are medical terms or the names of vegetables i dont like, but its a legitimate condition and i was born with it.

An ex told me that games were for children or people with really low I.Q's

This same girl would watch several hours of soaps and reality tv every night. That relationship didn't last too long

My dad once blamed what he called 'the death of common sense' on people playing more video games.
He said something like this; 'Kids are spending too much time on their Playstations or Xboxes. I heard somewhere that the average is about 30 to 40 hours a week. They aren't going to learn how to look after themselves or anything useful playing those things'.

That's all I can think of really...

what really stands out here is "as if i where a geek", you used 10 min trying to explain a fantasy rpg, nay a bioware fantasy rpg to a girl, and you dont consider yourself a geek?

realize it, your one of us.

and the title, while a little weak, especially for such an awesome game, makes perfect sense the whole game is happening in the "dragon age".

I bought a pink DS.
Not a big deal, it was used but pretty much in mint condition so I got it at like 40% the price. I didn't even think twice about it being pink.

I bring it to work and this dumb slut comes up to me and says "Is that a pink Nintendo DS?" in a snobby tone.

"Yes"
"It's pink"
"Yes"
"And you are playing...a pink DS"
"Yes we have established its colour, can I help you with anything else"
"You are such a loser"

I was like really? You're calling me a loser?
Because I'm comfortable enough with my masculinity to play a Pink DS.
I later pointed out she should really trim her facial hair because it looks like she has a moustache (which she does).

Many years ago, my grandmother walked in as I was playing Super Mario World, took one look at the screen and uttered the following:

"What's with that little jumpyman?"

Ironically, this is one of the more INTELLIGENT things I've heard Grandma say. (Interesting coincidence, too. She couldn't POSSIBLY have known that Mario was originally NAMED Jumpman!)

And for years to come, she referred to the act of gaming as, "sitting there with those jumpymen".

Ugh... far too often when I talk about video games as an artistic storytelling medium, someone (usually over 40, but even some people at my college) will just shake their head and close their eyes, as if to say "Aw, your ideas are so cute: don't worry, someday you'l grow up and see the world like it really is, when you're a big boy!"

There is little I hate more than that ignorant reaction...
