From another PS3 fan (to be fair this guy is a teacher at my school and pretty rational and nice and all that crap) but I find his statements about Halo funny

Video games being "conclusively linked" to any high-profile crime in the media always gets my eyes a-rolling. Our passion is the new rock and roll is the new jazz is the new comic books is the new cartoons ad nauseum. I try not to take it too personally.

And this isn't about gaming in general, but a persistent comment I get from (a certain subset of) people is that video game music is nothing more than "dumb techno" and "random beeps." I understand that few people in the general public will "get" why I'm into game music, but someone getting on my case about it in an otherwise civil conversation is just jarring.

Obviously I don't hear this as much online, because this is the Internet and we are all nerds (or geeks, or dorks) - but it still bugs the pants off me whenever it happens. One notable time was back in college, and I had the FF6 soundtrack playing while I was pretending to listen to the guy's opinion on my tastes.

Holy crap man, I'm also a video game music lover In that I will play games for JUST the music if I think it's good. Sure I like them to also be fun/have good stories. But I collect a lot of game music

But yes, back on topic, my parents think games are some giant conspiracy to get people to pay money for something they apparently don't "really" enjoy, just think they do.

My Grandma walked into the room once when I was playing Dead Rising, and switched it off at the plug, saying it was the reason that kids stab kids. So I very calmly told her about the time that I got stabbed and that it was because this chav **** didn't appreciate my long hair, and the fact that he didn't even have a console of any sort didn't seem to discourage her in the slightest.
Then I went downstairs and turned her fridge off. She wipes out my effort, I wipe out her food.

The number one thing I hate though is that people seem to lump ALL games together. They don't realize there are many genre's and tastes, and they think that there's only two types of games at most, either games that are just for kids, or super violent ones for insane murdering psychopaths. OT: I dated this girl for a while that said videogames were a waste of time and were the reason people were falling in intelligence. She would then go off about how she needed the newest cell phone, ipod, pair of shoes, and yak about what Angelina should name her newest brown child.

I also had a converstaion with my roomate the other tday that went like this:

Him: Walks into the TV room "What are you doing?"
Me: "Playing Fallout 3"
Him: "You do anything else today?"
Me: "Nope."
Him: "You need to be more productive."
Me: "Yeah?"
Him: "Yeah it's bad for you." Then sits down, loads bong and proceeeds to get cheeched, then falls asleep.
