There was a thread today. A lot of people called BS on the OP.
He claimed that the RRoD was caused by leaving games in the console when shut down saying that this caused the console to overheat (when switched off?!?!?) & scratched your discs....

anyway, it shits me when people say that violent games are a bad influence on young generations and drive them to crime, when clearly that is not the case otherwise the streets (at least where i live) would be a warzone.

I was playing Mass Effect at the time which buries Bioshock in terms of depth. Perhaps I was looking at this the wrong way and he was referring to pressure. Space is 0psi sure and I'm sure rapture has quite a few dozen PSI on Mass Effect, but then I could turn that around and counter with radiation in space. Besides I beat Bioshock, I think I gave it a chance to like it or not.

My ex (a psych major) tried to tell me that playing video games would give your children autism. She even showed me a study to prove it. Funny thing is,the study only proved a correlation between gamers and someone's chances of having autisic children. This kinda made sense, because autisitic people might seek out less soical activities, like gaming, and if you have autism your chances are higher of having autistic children.
To suggest that gaming causes autism is stupid though. I've only taken pshch 101 at my school and the first thing they taught us was "correlation does not prove causation."

I was trying to figure out why a former friend of mine (it wasn't for this reason) didn't like The Orange Box. He said about Portal, "You don't do anything in that game... It's just extremely boring". With Half-Life 2, he said, "The graphics are TERRIBLE". He said that he just didn't like Team Fortress 2, but I'll let him have that one.
A few people in my class and myself (all male) where in the senior lounge playing Mario Kart: Double Dash when two female classmates came in. One of them started to play and began to brag about how she was now a girl gamer. Before you ask, I'm usually extremely good at telling when people are being sarcastic (especially with the people I went to school with) and she was definitely proud of her "achievement".
Other than that, it's the usual Fox News crap, "(non-casual and popular) video games are for nerds", etc. If this was about anime or movies, holy fuck, I can give you some great quotes.
