Aside from the recent RPGs such as Mass Effect, BioShock, Oblivion, Morrowind, Fallout 3 (which all did suck me in) I have to go with Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy X. I must've spent more than a hundred hours accumulated on each game separately before I even started getting bored with it.

March can't come any sooner, I'm ready for Final Fantasy XIII.

Bioshock wasn't my favorite game of all time but I was fairly emmersed in it. Change jingling in peoples pockets still makes me think of big daddies.

Assassin's Creed 2 and Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

With Assassin's Creed 2, the story felt well written enough and had enough twists and surprises to make it seem dramatic and immersive without being overdone. AC1 was good but the strict linearity of progression and assassinations made it very unimmersive.

LoZ: Ocarina of Time because, hey, it's an awesome game. But seriously, for some reason, I felt like my actions were making an impact on the world. Beat the Fire Temple, now the creepy ring around Death Mountain goes away.

LocoRoco. My friggin god it is addicting as fuck. It's childish, but very innovative in use of the L and R buttons on the PSP. The levels are so easy yet very replayable. I've beaten it entirely and yet I play it over and over again just because of how fun it is!

Second place goes to Echochrome, it's a puzzle game that...well, I guess you could say the only game that got camera right, because it uses perspective. Once you start playing these tricky levels the less mind-numbing shooters you play. [no offense] And it's based off of the works of M.C. Escher, my favorite artist.

Half-Life 2 felt this way from a lot of exploration.

FarCry 2 did okay with the never-cutting-camera thing (even for vehicles, cutscenes, entering buildings, loading areas, viewing the map). And though I didn't think it was hot stuff, Dead Space too.

For a RPG I would take Dragon age: Origins. Great story even if the realtionship stuff is a bit cliched. A real player would not act that way when flattered for example.

For a FPS i would have to go back to Half life 2 wich had a funny story and u actually felt like a part of it rather than gunning down thousands of innocent mercenaries or aliens or whatever.

By genre, not ranked or anything:

RTS - Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2, Command and Conquer: Generals: Zero Hour and Company of Heroes (is that blood in my adrenaline?)

I might have missed some.
Ok i have never found RTS immersive, is that even possible?

Gothic 2 - fucked it up in the registry, and lost the CD

Company of heroes - crashes a lot

Impossible creatures - dead community

What am I to play now?! D;

Fallout 3. Whenever I need something to play and I don't really want to play whatever I was just playing, I go to Fallout 3. I have spent around a thousand hours now in that game, and I still haven't finished all of my own challenges for my good playthrough.
for me 'be good' is a challenge all on its own.

I agree with Fallout 3, but I found Oblivion to be immersive for far longer. (while fallout 3 was more so)

First game? FF8. The story immersed me completely. Cant count how many times i've replayed it, and i'm waiting with great trepidation for the PSP release coming to australia...

Second? Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater. Absolutely and utterly brilliant.

Latest? Modern Warefare 2. Although the singleplayer was over within a night of straight gameplay, i was so riveted to the screen i literally growled at my Beautiful Fiancee when it was time to go to bed. The multiplayer calls to me even when i'm at work, where i discuss it with my workmate.
