Goofy's shield from KH. How did he get the idea to use a shield when you've got perfectly good swords lying around?
From Capt. America of course, besides ever heard best offense is a good defense?
When your shield is the size of a frisbee, it is not the best offense or defense.

Probably the buster sword, seeing as it's about as tall and heavy as I am. But what it lacks in practicality, it makes up for in sheer awesome.
If it's as heavy as you, then you have to be an utter fatass. I can't remember where I've read it (here maybe?) but someone took the time to determine aprox. how much the Buster Sword would weigh based on it's size, thickness, etc. If the Buster Sword was to be made of stainless steel or something like that, it would easily weigh over 1,000 lbs. If for some stupid reason it was made out of a light metal (like aluminum) it would still weigh over 500 lbs.

So yeah, I agree. Awesome but not such a hot idea.
I don't reckon it's anywhere near 250 kg, since Cloud could still move it at the end of Crisis Core before he became a super-solider. Since he could only drag it, and in his weakened state of Mako withdrawal, I'd put it at about 50 kg. This is a video game so it would be handwaved as some ultra-light metal Shinra cooked up.

I'm going with Eternal Sonata here.

It's a god damn umbrella for christs sake. How can you kill a giant demon with an umbrella!?
I dunno... Whenever I try to hold an umbrella over my sister and I when we're walking on a rainy day, I somehow always manage to smack her with one or more of the prongs. She says I'm deadly with an umbrella.

I'm going to go with the: Dog launcher from Rinoa. I mean, strapping a dog to your wrist by its crotch and then fire it at your opponent isn't exactly ... sane

Weird thing is, there are real, practical swords that size...they just weigh a much more realistic four or five pounds, which is about as big as a sword can get before getting smacked by the "weight versus velocity" diminishing returns.
A heavy longsword weighs 5 pounds, a big 2 handed blade will be pushing 15-20 pounds.

Ever play Wild Arms 3?

well for those who haven't one of the main characters Vergina Maxwell, uses a pair of revolver pistols. Now I'm not saying that the weapon it self is impratical, but the way she weilds them. You can not, I repeat "CAN NOT", hold a revolver sideways, you will break your arm.

I'll put a picture up as soon as I figure out how.

Examples: Buster Sword, Gunblade, Keyblade, Brotherhood (FFX's bubbly sword). And any other odd weapons from any JRPG, not just ones made by Square.

I gotta go with Sephiroth's sword, any sword that thin and long could never be swung right. Everytime one would swing it it would wobble through the air like a MFer.

Also maybe Rinoa's "Dogzooka." You know exactly what I mean if you've played FF8.

Edit: For the record, FFX and Kingdom Hearts are 2 of my favorite games ever so it's very hard for me to bash those.

Also, I never played FF9, so what is Zidane's weapon like? Is it as odd as the others?
To awnser your question zidane's weapon is a dagger, no it's a pretty normal weapon.

The most impractal weapon is Mojo's weapon from chrono cross because it's nothing but a nail sticking out of your chest nothing more than that.

A heavy longsword weighs 5 pounds, as an upper limit. Two-handed swords weighed anywhere from 5-8, unless they were purely for ceremonial purposes. I was off, but not by much. You simply can't swing a 15-20 pound sword fast enough to make it worthwhile, assuming you could even swing it at all.

Some surprisingly light blades in there given their size.

As for the OP, the Final Fantasy Ninja's Throw ability always seems kind of off, even in the confines of the fantasy world they create. Sure you could buy shurikens and other throwing weapons, but even those in real life are more of a distraction than weapons to actually rely on to inflict damage. But it gets to a point where you could Throw random items for insane amounts of damage. How does throwing a frying pan do more damage that a massive fireball?

No love for Lyude's arsenal of trumpet guns?

Have you ever been pistol-whipped by an assault trumpet? It's not pretty.
