most influential games of all time...?

I love how there are games that came out a year or two ago on here. No Pong, no Half-Life 1, The ORANGE BOX (That's more than one game, morons!), no Counter-Strike and no WoW. And I mean, come on! LEGO STAR WARS!?

EDIT: I just saw this story on Kotaku. It's for console games only. Still, Lego Star Wars.

This List is pretty crappy, they left off:

Half-Life-Defined the modern FPS
Doom-First well recognized FPS
Thief: The Dark Project-Stealth gameplay defining
Pong- its Pong
Morrowind- A rather influential RPG that set the groundwork for Oblivion and by extension Fallout 3

and several others that I don't have time to come up with.

Doom
Doom isnt there, for me i think that started modern gaming.
PGR 4 is on there some reason, dont see how that was influential.
Unreal Tournament isnt on there.
PES 4 shouldnt be there either.
Super Mario Galaxy shouldnt be either.

How come that PES4 is infuential???? Or Bioshock wich is a copy of Systemshock 2?

I agree with PES4.
Anticipation and high reviews and sales from Bioshock caused the share price of take-two to rise by 25% and is the 3rd highest rated xbox360 game of all time and 12th highest rated PC game of all time, may just be a copy of SS2 but people didnt react in the same way to it.
Also BioShock is only 40th, ***** about the crappier ones higher up.

Why would Guiness book of world records include a list like this since "most influential" is a fairly loose term, and a subjective one at that. And why is there five Super Mario games and three of the GTA titles. In my opinion they could have just mentioned one title in a series and then used the rest of the space for some of the titles mentioned above. Plus, there seem to b quite a lot of contemporary titles, that can't exactly be said to be very influential just because they are good.

I bitched about the higher crappier ones on the other thread. Bioshock can be all that, but people that played previously SS2 know Bioshock lil' dark secret.

For some reason I find it hard to believe that Final Fantasy XII is more influential than Chrono Trigger and FFVII, especially seeing how if it those two weren't released beforehand, I highly doubt there ever would have been a Final Fantasy XII. That list seems a bit too subjective for even the Guinness Book of World Records.

metal gear solid should be in the top 5 in my opinion

it was the first very successful game that was very good and made for a mature audiences which probably altered the way the gaming world now focuses on a more story based media rather than racking up points

They really need to define influential. cause if you ask me they coverd alot of the basics but no way is that the correct order.

and how the hell can starfox 64 be on the list and the original starfox isn't. Not a huge fan or anything but the original game was a HUGE technological breakout for it's day.

This list was written by people who don't know jack shit about gaming. That's the only conclusion I can come to.

The fact that they didn't even have Doom on the list, the granddaddy of the biggest genre at the moment says loads about the stupidity of whomever wrote this article.
