But if you mean a PC game, I'd say it has to be one of those hardcore strategies for 40 something historicans like Hearts of Iron.
You can get Chess on PC. It comes as standard with Vista or Windows 7 too.

Jagged Alliance 2 on hard had both pretty smart opponents and took quite some brainpower to complete. Psychonauts was quite brainy too.

I'm sure the original System Shock would have had a lot of depth too if only I could make it work on Vista.
Have you tried the System Shock Portable Project [http://www.strangebedfellows.de/index.php/topic,211.0.html]? Runs on XP & Vista without much problems (if you read the documentation)

Gears of War or the Resident Evil series. Anyone who disagrees is not 1337.

Tetris..That's the best game ever made, in every respect. In my opinion.

Zack and Wiki - some levels are freaking mind boggling how they have to be completed.

World of Goo - need to be an architect to fully understand what structures need to be solid and stay up.

I have to say Rome: Total War.

I haven't played many 'intelligent' games, that's why I read books. Or write them.

But Total War is effing precise-management on too many places. Sometimes it was too much.

This isn't the most advanced game, but Rainbow 6: Vegas 2 requires thought.

Board games? Chess or Chinese Checkers.
