But if you mean a PC game, I'd say it has to be one of those hardcore strategies for 40 something historicans like Hearts of Iron.

You can get Chess on PC. It comes as standard with Vista or Windows 7 too.

Jagged Alliance 2 on hard had both pretty smart opponents and took quite some brainpower to complete. Psychonauts was quite brainy too.

I'm sure the original System Shock would have had a lot of depth too if only I could make it work on Vista.

Have you tried the System Shock Portable Project [http://www.strangebedfellows.de/index.php/topic,211.0.html]? Runs on XP & Vista without much problems (if you read the documentation)

I have to say Rome: Total War.

I haven't played many 'intelligent' games, that's why I read books. Or write them.

But Total War is effing precise-management on too many places. Sometimes it was too much.
