Sovereign attacking the Citidel in Mass Effect. Particularly when it just plows through the best ships the Council has to offer before making its way into the heart of the Citidel. The battle after the Alliance arrives, led by the Normandy, is pretty cool too.

That scene in Medal of Honor where you find yourself in a little hut with little to no cover with Taliban raining down on all sides.

then at the last moment
A pair of choppers show up to save you

Everyone I know who has played the game agreed that its one of the most intense parts of a game they've ever played and I could actually feel adrenaline pumping through trying to stay alive at that point, was intense for me.

Rainbow Six: Vegas 2

The final level, where you have to survive an onslaught of minions and stay out of the way of a helicopter for a certain amount of time, all in a game that is merciless about your health. Very frustrating, very intense, very satisfying when I finally put a bullet in that idiots head. (double tap FTW)

I found Vampire Masqurade (I can never spell that word) Bloodlines, the scene where you uncover the secret about the blond vampire twins and have to chose between them to be very intense and chilling at the same time.
Who did you save? or did you create "Tourette"? that was a pretty creepy part of the game, but then again... those Nosferatu were also scary as hell... For me, the ending of Where The Wild Things Are.
Alright, so there is this disgusting black oil crap that is apparently alive,
and it literally eats the entire island. This wouldn't be too bad if it didn't also try to eat the wild things. you have to go find another island for them to move to and a boat to go there, but the moment you do both the new island EXPLODES. so then you have to build a giant tower to the moon while EVERYTHING is being eaten by this stuff, and then one of the wild things goes off to hide and you have to follow himj, and you end up in space with the ruins of the main character's room, and it's weirdly emotional, and then you're chased up a giant tree by the black stuff and jump onto the moon as the whole planet is devoured. and the creepy part is it all builds up, like in the first level, you have to walk over a broken bridge, and everything seems fine, but then the ground opens up, and the stuff starts tearing trees out of the ground..
you really have to play it. it isn't that great of a game, but the story... TT^TT it's surprisingly good.

Persona 4
Nanako's death. That was the saddest experience I've ever had with a video game.

I'm sure all of these have been mentioned already but...

1) Jack's meeting with Andrew Ryan in Bioshock
2) hiding in the grass as troops and tanks pass within inches of you in COD4
3) The fade-out finale scene of HL2:Ep 2.

This thread desperately needs spoiler tags...

So Spoils ahead for "The Darkness"

Your lady friend Jenny being murdered. All you can do is move your head as the game forces you to watch...
And then you can't even horribly torture the bastard who did it. I'm still depressed from that game. Glad there's a sequel coming out soon.

Oh god. That was terrible. That was the only time I was ever begging a game to let me live. Curse you next gen graphics and voice acting!

So very, very true. I don't know how they managed it, but that moment was about the most memorable of any game I've ever played.

Otherwise? Probably the end of Mass Effect, with the massive naval battle going on just outside the Citadel. Damn, but that was a dramatic level.

Killing Andrew Ryan in Bioshock is what I'm reminded of the most.

Nothing else really comes to mind, but I'm sure there are other games that made me sit back and say "Holy shit!" at the end.

Edit: Early on in CoD2 when you're playing as the Soviets and you have to defend a building from a German counter-attack. There's one big roar from the Germans as they start their charge and it really impressed me. That + CoD 1 where you're in one of the boats ferrying troops across to Stalingrad.

Finding out that
Hobbes
had been the traitor all along in Wing Commander 3. He was the only one I trusted by that time. And screw the consequences (losing like 3 pilots,) I've never made any choice but to chase him down and murder him after that scene.

Probably the Dark World final boss in Super Meat Boy. That takes my vote.

No, wait. The fight against Father-Mother at the end of Zeno Clash.

To be honest many of the HQ battles for Dawn of War were intense.

THAT scene from Red Dead Redemption

Spend the whole game as John, become attached to the character only to have him killed. I did not see this coming and it hit me pretty hard when it did. Excellent, excellent, excellent writing.

Scenes in Devil May Cry 4 and Saints Row, they have to be my favorite.

Although it was crappy "hammer the button" style gameplay I would say the microwave corridor at the end of MGS4. Mainly for the split screen awesomeness showing all the crazy battles going on elsewhere.
