I guess technically Ivan from Golden Sun is a support character since he is not the player's character. Ivan was a weak good for nothing Jupiter adept(though he was slightly useful because he had party buff spells) outshone in 9001 ways by Sheba in Golden Sun: the Lost Age.
I completially agree.

Jupiter Adepts were all but useless in Golden Sun. I avoided the entire issue by making my final party consist of Issac, Felix, Jenna, and Garret. Occasionally I would use Mia or Piers, but the only thing the Jupiter Adepts got to do for the entire second half of The Lost Age was equip exploration Psyenergy items and act as storage space. While some of their spells were OK, they just couldn't dish out enough damage in a boss fight. It also didn't help that neither Ivan or Sheba were very essential to the plot compared to Felix, Issac, and Jenna.

A few other really annoying supporters are your main contact in Mercenaries 2 and your Operator in Armored Core: For Answer. The first was more repetitive than a parrot, and the second would remind you every time you got within 500 yards of the arena edges. Neither were helpful in the least...
Well Sheba was just Ivan with better stats, and the party buffs were, I would argue, indispensable.
That's kind of weird...

I don't recall ever using buff spells throughout either game...

Might explain why I never got any use out of the Jupiter Adepts...

navi was the first thing that popped into my mind upon reading the topic title.

Those who say that Navi is annoying, there is a character worse than that!
That damn owl annoyed more way more than Navi ever did!
no way, at least you could skip through most of the owls speeches throughout most of the game and ignore him. navi never left you alone.

Sherry Birkin, Ashley Graham, Sheeva Alamor, Steve Burnside all from RE franchise.
And those idiots who shout "Hey wait for me" in Morrowind.

For some reason Kaidan Alenko from Mass Effect always bugged the hell out of me. I don't know what it is. Maybe it's the fact that he's voiced by the same guy who did Carth Onasi from KOTOR and I couldn't stand him either. Maybe I just don't like his face. Either way, I ditched him so fast on Vermire that I don't think he even finished his sentence. Hell I would have joined with Saren if I could have shot Kaidan myself.

Luckily I find I didn't hate anyone quite that much in Mass Effect 2.

"HEY! HEY LISTEN!"

I believe those words are permanently etched into the mind of ever gamer, and whenever the hear it they twitch and clench their fists.
They're certainly etched in my mind.

Right before the words "okay Navi, tell me, how do we beat this thing?"

Alyx Vance from Half Life 2 is a feat of a character. She somehow manages to be the worst shoehorned in love interest (With a character who we have no evidence of being anything more than a floating pair of hands), worst token minority, worst tagalong sidekick (When the sidekick is actually in gunfights and you need to keep them alive), and lifetime achievement.
Wow.....I sooooo hope your ready for the torrent of morons Valve fanboys telling you that you're wrong and you need to go to hell. But yeah, I back you, but I still think Freeman is a robot, he shows no emotion, no sentient thought, he just shoots things & solves puzzles, he is more than a flaoting pair of hands, but deffinately not human.

Kreia. You knew she was evil. She talked evil. She acted evil. I knew she was going to betray me--she even all but said so! Yet the stupid railroad plot meant I couldn't do anything about it, or get rid of her. I didn't care about her advice, I knew what I was doing, yet she just wouldn't leave me alone. (Plus she kept getting between me and Atton. Boo.)
Kreia isn't evil. She's twisted sure, and detrimental to the galaxy, but she isn't evil. She's more of a misguided neutral. IMO. Besides, she's an absolutely awesome character.

As for my most irritating support character? Wakka. Lord.

Relm from FF6.
I never wanted to use that damn painting skill and yet in the Final Battle against Kefka, in the random selection they give you, they threw me with that. Brilliant.

Take him into an oblivion gate, kill him, then seal the gate, he won't spawn anymore
No, that doesn't work. I led him into an Oblivion gate. I told him to wait. I even paralyzed him. Then I sealed the gate. Five in-game days later or something he suddenly stood next to me. In a cave. Where I was stealthily killing bandits. He was carrying a torch. No more stealth.

Gears of War 2 - Dom. Shut the hell up about your wife! I don't need to hear your woe-is-me whining when I'm trying to chainsaw my way through an alien horde!

I'm surprised that nobody mentioned the commander's wife in C&C4 yet.
