Vimes from Terry Pratchett's Discworld was awesome. Night Watch was his best performance. I suggest you all read it.
in the case of diskworld then it has got to be rincewind and twoflower those two are the best charicters in the series (after death)

i have a few more to add to my own list

1) hannibal lecter
that man is pure bad ass and he is one of the few that looks like pure class in a suit dont try to deny it you watched hannibal (i havent seen silence of the lambs) and havent thought for a second "i wish i could look that cool" also he feeds a guy his own fecking brain!

2)the guy from 300
i mean the shouty scottish one he gives our countrie a good name and there is not another countrie in the world that can make the line "aye! what can tou do?" sound so cool

3)alyx vance
ok she is not a hero strictly speaking but she is just so good a charicter that i couldent not count her as a hero and before you say it i dont fancie her i like her because she is a female gam charicter who has a look about her of real beauty as in...how can i say it with out sounding like a weirdo...she just looks like a real person if you can see what i mean, also she has some really great bits of dioulge in the game.

4)esther shaw from the mortal engines series
she is just a great charicter

5)agent thomas from condemed
he is a total nut job in 2 but he sure can kick some all mighty ass

Shigeru Miyamoto (forgot to say him before). He is the hero of gamers everywhere. Praise be to him (everyone, including myself, kneels).

D from Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust.

Or Ichigo from Bleach.

Or Dante from Devil May Cry.

Or the robot from the third story on Robot Carnaval.

Or Sacretes

Mabe Sweney Todd

Or mabe I have a thing for big swords, I dunno.

Apologies to anyone who thinks anime sucks. You don't know what you're missing out on.

It has to be Bruce Campbell aka Ash. Hail to the King Baby!

Just for kicks, go to Google and put in "Finding Chuck Norris" then click "I'm feeling lucky". Best laugh I had all day.

I'd say Wolverine from the X-men movies because apart from being a bad ass he also shows emotion
now and then. A bad ass without some emotion just doesn't feel human to me.

The Black Guy From Predator
Which 'the black guy from Predator'? There was two of em and it's a toss-up who was cooler.

Personally I thought Billy was the coolest of the lot (never mind his somewhat anti-climatic off screen death)

in the case of "black guy from ----" then it would have to be denzel washington as i said before try and watch man on fire and not think he is the ultimate bad ass.

also gaz and capt. price and capt. macmillen from COD4 nothing beats hearing some one shout "SHOOT! SHOOT! YOU WANKERS!" in any game ever

Rexxar from WC3. My god, a more awesomely cool hero has yet to exist.

Although Chen Stormsnout comes close. (This is before WoW, by the way. In WoW they SUCK.)

It's HESTER Shaw, and I don't really think she counts as a hero considering she basically steals, kills and betrays her way through the series.

Hmm, most kick ass hero...

Sam Vimes from Discworld is a good one, especially in Night Watch, both sympathetic and unabashadly Clint Eastwood ish.

Master Li and Number Ten Ox from the Bridge of Birds (and The Story of the Stone and Eight Skilled Gentlemen) are two of my personal favorites. A chinese Sherlock Holmes and Watson slammed down into a fantastical ancient china loaded with action and adventure.

And speaking of which, Sherlock Holmes himself is pretty wickedly badass. Super Intelligent and addicted to cocaine, what more could you ask for?

For those of us fond of action-adventure-horror, Repairman Jack is a pretty awesome hero, infinitely capable and able to do battle with supernatural evil without any special abilities.

And lastly... Indiana Jones, I mean come on, who didn't want to be Indiana Jones when they were 5 and they first saw Raiders of the Lost Ark? I can't believe he hasn't been thrown on this list yet.

In no particular order:

- Waylander, Decado (the ice killer) and Druss, from the drenai saga
- Clint Eastwood (for his role in the good, the bad and the ugly and in the Dirty Harry movies)
- Genghis Khan
- Max Payne

Well met, Pedro! Sam Vimes is indeed a hardcore gentleman.

Batman, Judge Dredd and the mighty Thor are worth mentioning, too, though for my money Beta Ray Bill is the most dedicated buttock-repositioner of them all. The man can go toe-to-toe with the thunder god unaided, AND is virtuous and courageous enough to qualify to wield Thor's hammer himself. Then Odin gave him a hammer of his own and did I mention he has his own personal space battleship? Yeah.
