Most likable/unlikable protagonists?

I do have a certain liking for Yuri Lowell from Tales of Vesperia. Even if he does behave like a total arse to some people, he does it in such a joking and lovable way.

I think that, if I met him, Altair is extremely dislikable. As a player though, I prefer him over Ezio.

Lynch from Kane and Lynch is so unlikable he's likable. Like the Comedian in Watchmen. He's pretty damn mean, but he's also a cool badass.

Raiden, from metal gear solid 2 was my least favourite character ever. Most irritating twats usually have something endearing about them, but not this guy. Knowing you were playing him instead of snake didn't help his chances either.

See... I never got that. Yeah, he wasn't as awesome as Snake but then again no one is as awesome as Snake. He didn't seem to me as bad as everyone made him out to be.

Anybody from Gears, they're just so one-dimensional, a bunch of overly exuberant roid-monkeys. I couldn't take those games seriously.

Next to Brucie, Niko Belic is probably the most likable person in the entire GTA universe (Not hard to do but still). Wrex kicked ass, as well as Garrus, infact pretty much every good guy from Mass Effect I found extremely likable except for Kaiden (he's just, so, boring).

As for unlikable, pretty much EVERY player character from an FPS, I can't like them if they never talk, we never see their faces, they never see then interact with anyone beyond shooting them, they don't have a name, or any combination of the above.

Sev from Killzone 2 was a completely unlikable character. Something about him just didn't sit right with me.

My most likable was probably Star Fox. Cause well, he's Star Fox.

Unlikable. Kratos. At least the others are trying to be good, he's just talking like he's good while he murders everything in sight.

Likable... I rather like Sgt. Johnson. He's a stereotype, but he's the best damn stereotype out there.

Because this thread is about liking and not liking, I'll say that I cannot personally stand Claptrap. Usually lovable droid companions are easy to make lovable. Claptrap was just annoying - it was mainly the voice and the endless, "I'm dancin'! Check me out!"

I love Ellis from L4D2 and Bill from L4D. I also really like Stahn from Tales of Destiny on the PS1 (don't ask me why, cuz I haven't the foggiest). It's hard for me to think of many others, since there are so many generic characters in gaming nowadays. I also like Alistair from Dragon Age: Origins, he's just so awesome.

I hate Mayu from Fatal Frame 2. Everytime I saw her, I wanted to punch her in the ovaries. I also hate everyone from Final Fantasy 9...literally everyone.

If you play Ballad of Gay Tony, you realize that there are bigger douches in the world than Brucie. Namely, his brother Mori.

the guy in necrovision everytime he speaks i want to turn off the game because it reminds me of the cheapest game ever made when he utters a word it looks like he's retarded he sees giant vampire beasts with flails,undead rising from theyre graves,dragons,demons in world war 1 and everytime he sees them he reacts like he has seen them before a hundred times when he sees the undead he says that he has never seen any thing like them but doesnt get scared or anything he continues on his way now another one would be the guy from bishock 1 i just dont like him thats all , the guy from just cause 1 and the main two not so protagonists but my most hated characters of all time are the good and evil consiousnes things from black and white 1 theyre are the most hated because they explain every little thing i already know about the game in conversations with themselves oh no there can't be an effin square at the corner of the screen where everything is ritten how to play instead you have to listen 2 hours of them talking one to another that's why i quit and unninstalled the game before i got past the learning parts and crap oh and the worst part you can't do anything in-game until they are done talking theyre gibberish.

Take a breath goddamn you! You're making me feel puffed out just looking at that. You know, a full stop goes a long way towards making people actually read you comments. Commas don't hurt either.

OT: I'd go with Squall Leonhart as unlikable protagonist, my god I wish he'd get over himself. If I had to spend a day with a pale, emo dude with bad hair, I'd rather pick Edward Cullen.

I'll go with Nathan Drake as the most likable. I actually felt sorry for the guy the first five times he fell to his gory, rag doll-esque death.

I know, the government is supposed to be evil and your trying to overthrow the dictator by blowing up oil rigs, water towers and taking civilian vehicles by forcing them off, while maybe helping overthrow them, the soldiers only come in because your killing people and blowing up their supplies, I even felt a bit sad when I accidentally killed a civilian then hookshotted my way out and the soldier shouted "YOU BASTARD". If anything the game could be sending a message saying "Hey your wondering why they hate you even though you overthrew the dictator? THIS IS WHY!".

That's clearly because he associates with fuckin Rico.

My favourite protaganist, I think I'd have to say would be Niko Bellic. I liked the guy, seemed the most human out of the GTA series.

As for least favourite, I'd have to say Gordan Freeman, mostly because he is an anti-character to me.

I actually love the characters from AC2. Mario is the best though. He might actually have my favorite entrance of any character ever.

Hating characters...I actually dislike Nathan Drake. My hate for him has grown over the last couple of months. I didn't hate him at first.
