I was playing Grand Theft Auto III when I was around 10.

My parents fortunately understood that you cannot simply characterise an entire age group; instead, they recognised that some children are mature enough to be able to play these games.

Manhunt when I was roughly 14. I think in terms of content, that's the most mature game I've ever come across.

GTA 3 when I was between 8-10 (my older stepbrothers had a hand in this, though).

Jet Force Gemini back when I was like 8 or 9. For some reason we didn't realize until recently that it should have been rated mature. Still don't have another game where I can blow children apart...

Grand theft auto 4, I was only a year under the requirement but my parents were rather sceptical. I was pretty sure they were getting all their imformation about the game from the Jack thompson style end of it all because they seemed to know all about the prostitutes, blood, cussing, and drinking but I still managed to get it.

My mom bought me GTA: San Andreas when I was about 12 or 13. She even got me the guide. It's not that I had to do a lot of convincing, though; she knew what was in the game, but she also knew that I was mature enough to handle it.

GTA 3. But then, my mother had been buying "parental consent" stickered CDs for me for years. I think she's happy to do so because she thinks I'm pretty well-adjusted. Also she'd kill me if I even so much as swore in her presence (even now, when I don't live at home), so there was no real risk of me acting like the protagonist.

Didn't have to convince but put them on birthday and christmas list so I had to just hope. Either Modern Warfare 2,my mum didn't hear about the no russian level, or GTA 4.

Hmm, most of the games I asked for were usually a Teen rating or less. However the most "mature" one I asked for was Left 4 Dead. Of course because they had bought it for me I saw no problems in forking out the money to preorder Left 4 Dead 2 (when I had started making a decent amount of money) which is certainly more of a gore fest.

Of course I didn't actually need to convince them, my parents are quite happy actually buying me stuff since I never ask for a lot. My dad also buys a lot of games for himself which I usually play later on. When he got GTA IV my mum refused to let me play because of the women during some cutscene (I think it was a strip club or something). When I finally played it after a few months I saw the cutscene and was like 'I missed out because of THAT!?'.

I had then talked to my mum about it, I think I told her I'm used to a lot worse with gore and such (I recently played Gears of War near that time and had a strange satisfaction of all the heads popping and such). So that's probably the only mature game I had to convince them to let me play, not buy.
