"Well, what about Shepard?"

Not so much the quote in itself. But when you think of everything, in-universe and out, the spun outwards from that line... *awesome tingle*

Ron Pearlman's openings for Fallout games are always pretty cool.
They make me think of the intro to The Dead Flag Blues by Godspeed You! Black Emperor

Halo:CE's opening was pretty memorable

the opening sequence in brutal legend
"metal is dead"
the truth of that statement made me want to weep
What makes you think that?

Treblane already said it but...

"The nuclear weapons disposal facility on Shadow Moses island, in Alaska's fox Archipelago. Was attacked and Captured by next generation special forces. Being lead by Members of Foxhound".

In my restless dreams, I see that town.
Silent Hill.
You promised you'd take me there again someday,
But you never did.
Well I'm alone there now...
In our 'special place'...
Waiting for you...

do boardgames count?
'in the grim dark millenium of the 41st millenium, there is only war.' ( spoken in the heaviest manly voice you can imagine )

ABANDON ALL HOPE YE WHO ENTER HERE.

In capitals, the first part of the very first sentence in American Psycho.

Edit: pfft might help if I actually take it from a game hey?

There is something wonderful about Half Life. Though it is just a automated voice spouting off drab information, it sets the mood for the rest of the game to come. Plus, I suppose nothing like that had been done before in gaming.

Quake 2: all the broken radio chatter about the destroyed cities and the invasion of Strogg (one g or two?) is quite epic and says this is going to be one hell of a ride!

I got one thats kinda inventive: The one line that stuck out from the intro to Half Life 2: Episode 1
"What is it you have truly created Dr. Freeman? Well? Can you think of one thing? I thought not."

Kinda sets an underlining mood for that episode, the aftereffects of your actions in Half Life 2, and how everything has changed.

"The more things change, the more they stay the same. Boundaries shift, new players step in, but power always finds a place to rest its head. We fought and bled alongside the Russians. We shoulda known they'd hate us for it. History is written by the victor. And here I am, thinking we'd won. But you bring down one enemy and they find someone even worse to replace him. Locations change, the rationale, the objective. Yesterday's enemies are today's recruits. Train them to fight alongside you, and pray they don't eventually decide to hate you for it too." by Com. Shepard

I don't care what you say about the game, that is a damned good opening monologue.
Yeah, I enjoyed quite a few of the monologues/mission briefings from MW2, and that one was probably my favorite.

Fallout, Morrowind and Half-Life 2 have been mentioned more than enough times already, so I'll add in this one:

"I want to show you something." - Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines

Most people think time is like a river that flows swift and sure in one direction. But I have seen the face of time and I can tell you they are wrong. Time is an ocean in a storm. You may wonder who I am or why I say this. Sit down and I will tell you a tale like none you have ever heard.
