I listen to some Karma Lingo, which I guarantee almost no one has heard of since they're a pretty localized band. The lead singer is my violin teacher.

I think two of my more obscure musical tastes would be "Mira" and "Falling You."

Does Pitchshifter count as obscure? I don't know anyone else who has heard them. If not then no I don't know any really obscure music.
I've heard of them, but I haven't heard any of their music in years.

What about Scatman John? Some of his songs are pretty weird.

Tunak Tunak Tun - Daler Mehndi

My friend used this for some belly-dancing thing she did. I haven't seen it myself, but she assures me the music video is worth watching.

Bjork. Though I like quite a lot of her... err... songs?

And all the kinds of Metal that involves grunting. Also, pseudo Opera singing doesn't mix with Metal. So quit it, Nightwish!

That makes you sound like a music snob of mega proportions.

Most obscure... probably Sleep or The Sword or some other sludge/doom metal band. They're not that underground but still not many people have heard of them.

I would guess unexpect would count as fairly obscure, avant-garde metal cant be that well known. Very much an acquired taste, lot of different things piled on top of either other http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbSUEbG3OVE

Darkest of the Hillside Thickets would also be fairly obscure too I guess, a punk rock band that mostly sing about the various Lovecraft horrors. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vLRlnEav4No not about Lovecraft but I like that video.

Well Obscure depends on what time period your living in of course. For example I sort of like "The Irish Rovers" but they WERE fairly mainstream at one point.

I'm gonna have to say Pirate / Viking metal is pretty obscure. Well, people I know think I'm weird for listening to it.
It's shame people think it's weird. There's nothing better than drinking along to Alestorm, they were brilliant live.

On to obscure bands I've recently been listening to Coroner, a swiss thrash metal band described as being the Rush of thrash. It's all about the prog.

I am curious how many people on here have heard of Neutral Milk Hotel.
Everyone, I would hope. They might not be the biggest band in the world, but they're miles from obscure.

I spent some time last night trying to design myself a tattoo relating to In The Aeroplane Over The Sea... 'nuff said really.

My memory is awful so I'll have to flick through my iTunes to see what's obscure in there:

An Albatross - noise rock with a bit of electro.
AM60 - NYC indie-pop, released a great single to great acclaim in the UK but very little success, followed by one great album with absolutely no success and were never heard from again.
Giant Robot - Buckethead and his usual stupid noises.
Globe - J-pop combined with trance. Nice.
Goteki - possibly well known in certain circles, but awesome dark electro/EBM.

...I can't be bothered any more.
