Most Original Game of the Past Decade?

Hey, Escapists, I have a short question to ask... In your opinion, what was the most original game of the past decade (2000-2010) That you have played, and why?

If you are wondering, by original I mean that the game has features that many games of that time didn't have.

I will give that distinction to portal. That game had a gameplay mechanic i have never seen done before.

Mass Effect, space opera, sex with aliens, and now cat fights for the third installment

I have no idea. There are games that stand out from the crowd, like Portal, Assassins Creed, Condemned, Bioshock etc but I don't know what the most original is, if any

Bioshock comes to mind.

Steampunk, an underwater city and the ability to fire bees out of your hand.

Yup. Awesome.

Infinity is looking to be just as fucking awesome.

A shoutout should probably go to the Assassin's Creed franchise. I haven't seen anything like it.

I would suggest minecraft, but it's not out yet.

I honestly can't think of the most original game.

I feel like Assassin's creed comes to my mind, there may have been other games like it, but I've never played them. And I've never played a multiplayer like AC Brotherhood's before, It felt good to play an online game that wasn't a Shooter, Racer, or fighting game.

Also Portal was pretty original.

They TRIED to do something original, and with EA looking over their shoulders it's damn legendary to pull it off.

Well it depends on what you are talking about. Original story? Original gameplay? Original design?

Anyway, I think that Portal probably wins this round. I'm not even a huge fan of the game, but I agree that it's unlike anything else I've ever seen or played.

Probably "Chrono Cross" from way back in August 2000.

I haven't seen many of it's mechanics reproduced, nor a twist similar to the 2/3rds point of it, either.

From the Stamina, to the Elements system, to the COLLECTIBLE TEXT BORDERS, to the star system, to it's Dual World (NOT LIGHT AND DARK) system. It was very fresh and unique.

Hmmmmm...

Jet Set Radio Future. So funky and original that literally, nothing like it has come out since. It also has probably the most amazing licensed soundtrack of any game of the last decade, and it compliments the gameplay so well.
