So the story is:
I was playing Mafia II earlier and I noticed a feature completely useless and very unneeded. For some weird reason they put playboy magazines in the game with pictures, so I was wondering "Seriously? What's the point of this?"

Discussion: Has there ever been something in a game you found completely pointless?

The pitcher plant from Oblivion gives you the option to harvest, but no ingredient exists in its coding, so it's a 100% rate of you finding nothing useful. I wouldn't say it's completely pointless, just pointless for an alchemy plant.

Pitcher Plant? I'll have to find one of them.

The point of the playboy mags was probably to stir up some controversy and get more people looking at the game.

OT: In the Halo 3 level, the Ark, there are crystals lying on the ground everywhere in desert caves. No explanation as to why they're there, and they don't add to the scenery because you don't really notice them.

The .32 pistol in Fallout 3. The starting pistol is better, and the ammo for the .32 is the same as the hunting rifle which you get around the same time.

The Stealth GUn in MGS: Peace Walker is also worthless. It makes whatever you are targeting invisible, so it is just dead weight in singleplayer.

That and I imagine Playboy probably payed a healthy sum of money for the product placement.

These little guys, they annoyed me so much before i realized I could never get anything. I must have reloaded a hard save 20 or so times to get what "must have been a really rare, good alchemy ingredient!" >.<
But I digress, they look pretty cool.

You talking those little ones that flash? I never got those either, you've got enough neutral game light to make sure you don't get lost (it's all linear where the crystals are anyway), and either way, a bit of dark in a cave section always makes a nice little segue to the next covenant outpost.

I agree. Although I did use it purely for the weapon design and the fact that it's a 5 shot revolver

No, the ones I'm talking about don't glow. They're kind of shiny, I guess, but they're only in a few tunnels and those tunnels aren't very dark.

I have only played the Mafia 2 demo, but I thought seeing some nice, natural tits to be quite a nice tack on the easter-egg-collection-explore-the-game-hunt.

Game devs put those collectible hunts in the game I think because they want you to peek into every nook and cranny of the game they work so hard on.

But I think it can get to a ridiculous level, like in grand theft auto: San Andreas. One type of hunt quest is enough, but 3 or 4 like pearl diving and horse shoes was too much.

I thought the Mafia II was more of a "Let's sell this to 13 year old boys" gimmick.

All the letters left laying on the ground in God of War 3. I just finished it today and was irritated every time I read one. I understand that they were trying to expand and build a story through other characters or whatever, but seriously? It's God of-Fucking-War. Just let me kill things some more. I don't need to read Daedalus' stupid shit...

The bubble gun in Just Cause 2... it took up a weapon slot, did no damage and you gained heat from firing it. Completely pointless and completely badarse

So RPing now can just be considered sitting in a chair and doing nothing, works for me. (P.S. I like your avatar as well)
