Seriously, look it up. It's the Israeli Defense Forces standard martial art. It's insane and practical.
This post wins the thread. There's a reason why it's referred to as one of the most deadly martial arts techniques on the planet.

I think anything that you use your feet or legs alot is total impractial. I did Wado-Ryu for 8 years and the only "move" I have ever used is to slap someone across the ears.

As for the martial art. Something that is maily about grips, holds and throws would be best.

Gun kata.
Duh.

Actually, I am unsure. Probably one that the military (not sure which military, incidentally,) teaches.
Gun-Kata is definitely bad ass as all hell. But if I have to pick a real-life martial art, then I pick Capoeira.

In case someone doesn't know what it is.

To me, Jujitsu since thats what i've been doing for a while. All you need is to be fast, and in litterally a matter of seconds you can lock up your opponents entire body reguardless of strength. It was rather funny since an 11 year old girl who's Black Belt in it got my Sensei down in less then 10 seconds from just being fast and knowing where to use pressure points and locks. afterwards we laughed till she did us all in. >.<
Plus your trained to dodge Knife's clubs etc or use them agianst the wielder...

....Gun though, you'd have a better chance playing dead, begging, or simply "Leg-It".

Western sword based martial arts. No matter how good you are with your hands, someone trained with steel will win. The only reason for the development of unarmed martial arts is for those countries where iron was at a premium. Those of us fortunate enough to live in western Europe don't have that problem so we make nice shiny swords.

speaking only from the ones i've given a go i'd have to say aikido. being reasonably short it gave me an advantage and with all the physics in it i could get my head round why as well as how which always makes me happier with things

It is probably the most practical fighting style I have ever seen. There is no honor, and there are no real rules. The whole idea is to mess the other guy up as badly as possible because you ar fighting for you life.

ahaha yeah except in a real fight you dont get two guys patiently waiting their turn to hit you with some half-hearted love tap. In reality they'd both jump in and kick you to pieces.

Most special forces (and even some regular law enforcement agencies) have some form of home-grown martial art. The U.S. Marine corps has one, the British SAS have one, and the Japanese police in Kyoto train in Jiu-jitsu.

I don't believe that any particular style of fighting is dominant, but seeing how its track record in Mixed Martial Arts goes, I'd opt for Jiu-jitsu as well.
