Personally I think that whether or not something is art is a matter of opinion. After all, some of the things I've heard about that are called art to be utterly ridiculous. The most prominent example to me would be Tracy Emin's "My Bed". It makes no sense to show of some messy, unmade bed and call it "art".

I think a lot of modern art is stupid. Apparently stacking 3 household objects on top of each other is considered art.

I made a thing at Escapism out of twigs, a feather, and a leaf.
Fairee called it art, does that count?

Edit: I think she has a picture somewhere...

As an art student I've seen some pretty shit excuses for art.
The worst being the guy who chopped a cow in half and sold it to a gallery.
Art is a personal thing though, so i suppose even stuff like that counts (technically)

Oh, and anything by Robert Rauschenberg, god damn how i hate that guy!

Art is mearly subjective. It can make you feel or think or even think why the lack of both is there. But then again, I even consider the ashtray or the watch in front of me on my desk a piece of art. They are both objects that look nice and have a conventional purpose.

I think art has become quite bloated, yes some things are still art. Yes, some modern art is really insightful but some people just are terrible. You look at it and realise it's only their name and 'prestige' that lets them get away with this, and then people+art houses with more money then sense buy them to show their other friends with more money then sense/people who grovel to those with money and deny their senses.

Really, I wonder why gaming wants to be art, shouldn't we try to be something better?

I bet we as a community could make a website talking about some great (fictional) man and his amazingly sad life, and say how he created such wonderful work through his pain and how he will be remembered as van gogh of our generation in 50 years time. Then, we make some shitty paintings in our houses, sell them, then donate to charity.

I honestly see it working with some dedication.

Art is very subjective. The most crappiest things, that is made to express or show creative skills, is art.

That said, I really have a problem with country music in general.

Considering your post, OP, you're not getting what art's about.

Everything is art.

See that?
I demand $1'000'000 for that line!

See what we're getting at?
If someone wants to pay it, let them. You can't demand shit because what you provide is a non-essential product. Although overall, there are plenty non-essential products people buy not for happiness and indulgence but for some kind of societal status.

If it has a meaning, or precisely has NO meaning (think Dada), it's still art.
