Does "Mount your Friends" count? Because that bothered me in ways that I still dream about.

Prey. No, not that one with the cups, the actual Prey, where one boss is an alien monster that has your still living girlfriend's torso and head impaled on it, ultimately forcing you to kill her to put her out of her misery after earlier seeing your grandfather brutally shredded to death.

Also another boss is a little girl that was brutally killed by an evil alien spirit that then brutallier killed a little boy before making you chase after it and fight it in mostly darkness.

That game still deserves a real sequel.

Manhunt disturbed the hell out of me when it first came out.

After suffocating a guy with a plastic bag and watching as the life slowly drained from him basically had me going "yeah... I don't think I'm gonna be playing much more of this".

It was too "real" for me at the time and was the only time I can remember where a game was just... too much for me.

I loved the original Prey, it's a damn shame we never got the sequel and that the name was used for something completely unrelated.

The realistic jiggle physics in that game was incredible

Pure human horror is just way worse than any supernatural stuff.
Agreed. I didn?t make it through much of Manhunt for this very reason. It?s why I love everything about GTA V except Trevor?s torture scene that crossed the line from the franchise?s staple of satirical, OTT violence into uncomfortably real sociopathy. Chalk it up to the dissonance created when a rational, empathetic mind tries to wrap itself around the idea of one that not only lacks those qualities, but is the antithesis of them; it?s a level of horror that goes beyond what you see and is difficult to disassociate from fantasy. It?s the innate horror of thinking ?stuff like this could actually happen,? or worse, ?stuff like this DOES actually happen and people exist that are so disconnected from the shared human experience as to entirely objectify and devalue others so much as to subject them to unspeakable horrors without batting an eye.? It?s sickening. I?d like to say I can appreciate that kind of horror for doing exactly what it sets out to do, but I can?t stomach it; I?ll watch the news if I want to subject myself to the worst of what humanity is capable of.
