Believe me or not, but Mass Effect 2. That final boss on Insanity with a Vanguard, stalling to pick up more heavy ammo while evading Harbingers and that massive laser that can catch you if you're on the edge of cover. Since it pretty much starts circling you you need to watch the hell out. And it's quite long, even with the Cain. Vanguard gameplay is SO bleeding edge and visceral.

OT: proably the part in bioshock 1 with the dentist.

You mean this one? I always thought it was the Plaster Splicers that did it for me. in the water logged basement with the Power to the People.

Now that I think about it, the Plaster Splicers were creepy in general. Especially the ones in poses.
Geez was Bioshock one hell of a scary game. I have a couple stories of being pretty freaked out by Splicers running around but I have to admit that the plaster Splicers always were creepy to me. At first they just weirded me out with their odd poses but the one you put in above, that was the one that made me get really uneasy about any of them. I went down into that basement, got some water on me by accident so my view was all messed up, then noticed the Splicer standing there. First thing I thought was: "I don't remember that statue there." Then it moved and from then on I didn't trust a single plaster "statue" after that. Didn't help that after that after you leave the winery all the bowing Splicers in the entrance were gone.

I was coming in this thread ready to mention the Dunwich building, but the OP did that for me. :D

Metro 2033. Specifically, the playground and defense scenes. If you've played it, you know what I mean, if not...you'll build a mansion with all the brick's you'll shit.
I very nice mansion with 10 bedrooms and 9 1/2 baths, all-brick patio and jacuzzi, and also there will be left over bricks..

OT:
This may seem really odd, but it was back before Bad Company 2 when i was playing the first one. We were in Oasis, i was in defender at the first gold crate spawns. I was hiding in the corner to ambush bomb-setters, and these explosions were going off. Then the lag hit and I heard these nice birds singing and silence. It creeped me out soo bad.

That crazy bastard's room in the lighthouse (and his journal) from the Dark Brotherhood quest towards the end.

God I was fucking scared.
I generally don't play games with terrifying moments in them, so Oblivion is the closest I've gotten. The head freaked me out so much that I grabbed it, went to my house in the waterfront and threw it in the bin.

Stranded 2

In the beginning I was walking back to my shelter, getting dark, then (While wearing headphones) I heard a lion growl, and I turn around to see the lion's glowing red eyes right in front of my face. (0_o)

Unfortunately, my mom was in the room when I squealed like a 3 year old girl. =/

Have any of you got Garrys Mod? And have any of you ever seen the "Harmless companion cube?" If not then go download that. Spawn about five in front of you and then go about your daily garrys mod buisness. Then realise what the cubes do. And then horror ensues.
Thanks for that. The cube...............is..........................harmlesssss.

It definitely does not do anything scary.

All of you have it completely wrong. Those moments are built up by the sheer momentum of suspense, and give a thrilling result.

The most terrifying moment ever seen in gaming is doing a /played in warcraft and realizing just how much of your life has been wasted to that game. I knew people who refused to do it because of how bad it was.

I am not easily frightened, and I have played a lot of horror games, but something about the beginning of the Ghost Ship level in Republic Commando really got to me

The orphanage in Thief Deadly Shadows, seriously, look up on Youtube.

Afraid of Monsters, a Half Life 1 mod, is really freaky too. Think of zombies who have their heads all contorted like Silent Hill.

There was a moment in Bioshock where I walked in and heard a splicer shouting as he was apparently cutting up a corpse. I tried using some electro bolt on the water, presuming he was in it as I couldn't seem him around the corner. It didn't work and as I walked up to kill him, the lights went out and I heard screaming around me. I tensed up and shot around me. When the lights came back on there was nothing but a corpse and some items where I had quested to. As I walked out, the splicer jumped me. So terrified

Either that or the entirety of the village portion of Resident Evil 4.

Call of Cthulhu: dark corners of the earth

So many moments to choose from, the deep ones, the cthulhu statues, the whole feeling of the game, running from the fishmen, the flashbacks and visions. If there was one moment to choose though, it's a tie between the ending (watch it if you want i'm not giving spoilers), it just creeped me out, or the polyps. Goddam those things were freaky as hell

It doesn't help that it's possible to be very young when you first play that game...

I counter all horror games with a nice bit of "Yakety Sax". I swear to god that music takes all suspense and fear out of ANYTHING.
I know exactly what you mean - I was playing Prince of Persia: Warrior Within and was getting chased by the Dahaka. I've always found those sequences to be so adrenaline-pumpingly terrifying, but then my brother put on "Woo Hoo" by The 5. 6. 7. 8's and I've never been able to take it seriously since.

That place is a lot less intimidating when you have Fawkes backing you up at level 24. Jesus christ I will never ever piss Fawkes off he does not die, from anything ever. We'll be trekking through the wastes and all of a sudden I'll hear RWAARGGRBRAGLE *pew pew pew* and I'll turn around to find a pile of dead raiders.

The first quest in Broken Steel when the orbital drop destroys Liberty Prime (those Enclave bastards) I was pretty far away from him (the robot) and Fawkes was practically touching him shooting at a couple of Enclave, orbital drop hits, Prime goes down and I figure "Shit that Probably killed Fawkes I'll have to reload" out from the dust walks Fawkes hardly injured. Yeah, never fucking piss him off. Even as far away as I was it still knocked of 200 of my HP and crippled and arm and a leg through Winterized T51-b and adamantium skeleton.
Before:
Fawkes [||||||||||||||||||||]

After:
Fawkes [ |||||||||||||||||| ]

Think I'll go with Fawkes being terrifying in general. Oh and I've had him with me since escaping Raven Rock, he has yet to use a single Stimpack.
