I'd just like to find out wich is the most touching TV-series you've ever seen?
Mine would defenatly be Doctor Who (the 2005)series. The finale almost brought tears because of the wonderful mix of brilliant humor and deep sadness.

Battlestar Galactica. That show was a diamond in the rough, it had it's ups and downs but overall it was one hell of a ride.

Edit: Ninja'd by a nanosecond!.

Rather a tenious link as I don't watch a lot of television, but amongst the comedy I find 'Scrubs' has its moments of touching and emotional moments.

Lost.

If that show doesn't rip the strings from your heart, there's something wrong with you. Never have I felt so much empathy towards characters; both ones that I like and even ones the writers led me to hate.

I don't cry much, but I've cried several times in a lot of episodes of Lost before.

Ross Kemp: Return to Afganistan

It really opened mine, and a lot of people's minds, to what is really going on in Afganistan

OR The Frys Dog Futurama episode.
Yes! The ending of that episode was sad as hell. Another touching Futurama episode was the bee hive one.

aargh! scrubs is a hypocritical pile of shite when it comes to anything serious. it only ever did one touching episode (when ben dies).
and futurama? wtf!? it's practically insulting their attempts at "touching" moments.
personally, firefly is one of the most moving series i've seen.

Clannad. Yes it's an anime but it's tugged on my heart strings so much harder than anything else I've ever seen on tv.

I challenge you to watch season 5 episode 20 of scrubs without feeling a tug on the heart strings. It is impossible.

The Office. Oh, and i was thoroughly depressed when I learned the fate of Scrubs, if that counts.

I recommend a double feature with a subtitled version of "Battle Royale 2" to help reach emotional balance.

Okay, okay. All jokes aside, off the top of my head I can't think of any TV series that I felt were paticularly touching as a whole. I mean most of them have their moments, but I can't think of any that were consistant.

One of the big reasons is that when I watch TV it's usually on DVD after the fact. Meaning I watch episodes back to back as opposed to with a week in between and tend to pick up on a lot of inconsistiencies. Also I feel that a lot of the moments intended to be touching are simply too contrieved, oftentimes relying on a lot of "huh, WTF" occurances so I'm oftentimes caught blinking dumbfounded as much as being touched....

The worst offender to this is probably "Heroes" a sign that they pretty much should not be doing a "super hero" show without the FX budget to do it right. The show seems to constantly try and have touching moments, but 99% of the time (especially in Season 3) it occurs to me that none of these situations make the slightest sense if the characters behaved like they had three brain cells between the entire cast. "OMG if we had actually used our powers with a modicum of common sense, we could have averted this but we didn't so now witness the touching tradgedy!"
