A lot of the games being mentioned here like Call of Duty, Left 4 Dead and other war games like Medal of Honor are all heavily gameplay driven, and to be honest, I couldn't care less about story when I play them. I just like shooting stuff.

If were going for unoriginal what about Mario and Legend of Zelda? the basic plot is: The world s in trouble because the villain has kidnapped the princess and you gotta dave the day and save her.

The most cliche of stories ever! XD

I want to say persona 4 (warning spoiler alert)
It starts interesting but that interest declines later or at least with me because of how repetitive the story felt.
You wait until someone gets kidnapped, investigate the feelings and personality of the victim while trying to find a connection and save them before the fog comes in.
Occasionally they will try something different, like failed attempts to catch the culprit including stakeouts and spying on possible victims, then they automatically blame the first suspect they see as the killer and try to apprehend them. However in their defense that is kind of the natural reaction but why leave your post completely unguarded while you chase a suspect.(If this makes sense please explain)
They wander into a world that they can't escape from and almost die in the beginning and from that they form a story. It is a simple story although i don't get how do you mix murder with saving humanity from its constant death wish. (which humanity has constantly)
It makes things interesting by combining mystery with supernatural elements, but it feels forced because it relies on finding a connections which is nonexistent.(unless you count the midnight channel)

1 You live in an ancient time.
2 You have Swords on Chains
3 You wear very little clothing.

the only difference was the addition of breasts.
Yeah, the gameplay is very similar, but if you ever played the game you may have noticed that the stories are vastly different AND that the main character has fucking emotions that don't end in rage.

I can't think of anything else besides all the Mario Jump & Runs after 1. (I don't count US/EU Mario 2)

halo is bunch of space marines killing aliens! the story is so generic like the games.
I refer you to my previous post. Save for the likes of Star Wars and Warhammer, Halo has the most expansive and original backstory I know. And I say that having read the books, played all the games and basically looking at all aspects of the story. If you've played it then fair enough. If not, then as I said to the other guy, you have absolutley no right to comment on it.
this is coming from the guy who though seven pounds was a "good" movie.
You're obviously a meat head. I don't mean to start another argument but Seven Pounds was a good story if you go in expecting one. The Halo series as a whole is a deep world and has a good storyline whether you like it or not.

Unoriginal? "The princess has been kidnapped."

Or for a tad more original than that:

"The president has been kidnapped/held hostage and only you can save him."

"Are you a bad enough dude to rescue Ronnie"?

I felt that I had to do it.

Space marines in general.

It was fun the first time with Metroid, and Halo was alright, but they might be overplaying it a bit with all the space marine games out.

Sorry but Halo. Ring World by Larry Niven. Nuff said.

Also all WWII games. How hard is it to do that? Not at all.

Left 4 Dead, here are some zombies, figure it out from there.
Or The Conduit, science fiction cliches all around.
