Eternal Sonata: Reason for this is that the so-called "Hardcores" (AKA: In the Words of Yahztee, the "Beer drinking frat-boy's"). Great game, rather unique storyline for a JRPG, and, while it was generally liked by critics, I have yet to meet a person who has both played it and prefers it to Gears of War (I, by the way, do prefer it to Gears of War). Also, Assassin's Creed was rated well, and while I have heard many good things about it, mostly, I see/hear things like "Assassin's Creed sucks!" and such things. Yes, it's repititive, but so are most FPS's nowadays, so deal with it (Can't stand FPS's). It's a new and rather unique game, and very good (The combat is pretty... meh... but the combat is not the focus).
i think assassins creed would have been a much better game if it used the prince of persia method of fighting, i have the game and it seems that the action of running away always got stopped almost completely by the combat, videogame makers need to realize realism isnt always best.

ACE COMBAT 6: I'm totally addicted to it. It got good reviews but no one seems to care about it. If you need to get someone out of a GTA IV addition, I highly recommend this game.

ASSASSIN'S CREED: Everyone seems to hate this game. The ultra-useful counter kill makes it easy to forget that there's a bunch of cool moves Altair can perform in a fight, so that can lead to uninspired combat were you just sit around and wait to be attacked. Despite that, I really had fun with this game.

Prey it gets no credit at all and did more than Portal did inside of a full length game long before Portal ever came out.
yes but Portal was amazing due to the story and the humor, it wasn't necessarily about the ability to displace space.
watch yahtzee's orange box review for the best review ive personally heard of the game
No, prey is not like portal. Good game, but your're giving it a bit more than it is worthy of.

I agree the Crackdown, Ninety-Nine Nights and The Darkness were all ridiculously underrated.
Each may have had issues that brought them down but the most important thing was that they were FUN.

Two Worlds was a huge disappointment. I read all this terrific stuff about it on ign. This game was supposed to be an Oblivion killer. I got the game and it was freaking depressing. It didn't have what it promised and what it did deliver was half reared (not sure language restraints so better safe than sorry). The animal population wasn't what was promised as well. For example on crappiness I wanted to be a necromancer. It took me forever to get the spells, and I didn't even get them all. So I get to the point in the quest line and the lady tells me to finish my other business with the liar guy who turns out to be the final boss. (Should have killed him) any way so I get to the point at the end and at first join him. Which then brings out the characters that were not fully explored and i battled them. Very difficult battle. Beat them and then I don't get my end achievement. So I reload and choose not to join him and then battle him real easily and then game over with achievement. Then I get a cut scene that doesn't make real sense and I am good at figuring things out like that. Well it made sort of sense but not really. And then I don't get to complete my necromancer missions.

Now on to other things. I wanted a map of the game world. I didn't get the collectors edition. But I did buy the guild book. And what it told me to do is to buy the collectors edition. Now more annoyingly the games expansions have been only online, which is bull. Again the feeling of being screwed comes up. In my opinion the game doesn't deserve to be on this list. I am not a harsh critic and a game has to be pretty bad for me not to like it. Not saying I didn't like it but it doesn't deserve this list for
1) They didn't deliver what the promised would be in the game. Check ign.com for their promises.
2) The feeling of being screwed with the purchase. Though this is more personal then a decent reason but it is going here.
3) No map. Not in the guide book (which i got to cause the game is huge) and was told in the guide book to buy the collectors edition to get the map.
4) Poor Story in game. While being a free choice game and doing a lot of good things some of the things don't work out. For example the mission where you choose who to give this item to. The guy, the clone of the guy or the arch mage. Mind you, you can't tell which is the guy and then when you give it to one of them the arch mage attacks you and you kill him. Later for a necromancer mission you kill everyone in one of the villages that one of the guys was in.
5) Poor after launch support. Now i am all for online expansion. But not showing you core audience some decent support other that some tweaks to the game is ridiculous. And further more instead of an offline expansion they expect us to buy another game.
6) The lore doesn't live up to the game. If you read the lore online and then play the game you will see what i mean. This town expected to be populated by snake people from the sea is instead populated by humans.
7) Game mechanics. Hoarse control is ridicules. There is a frame rate issue. (TO be honest I don't really remember that but that isn't saying much). There are other issues as well but I don't remember them or didn't look for them or whatever. Not really my areas of experties, meaning I don?t break this down and normally look pass it.
8) World. To my knowledge the dwarf city is not enterable. Like I said to my knowledge if someone else has done it then I am wrong. Areas of difficulty very from dang to what now. I can recount this village where I tried time and time again to complete (it was invaded by snow ogres or something (I don't remember the main enemies.) Now I recognize that this is a good thing too cause it makes a dynamic world, if it was populated right. Now for the cities, not the towns. The cities don't look right. Too many people or just something wrong with the population of the cities and the buildings.

Now for the record I beat the game. I didn't hate the game. But it deserved what it got as a rating and isn't underrated. Thank you for your time.

Atually it is like portal in the sense that you use portals to move from place to place. prey also screwed with your sense of scale while utilizing the portal mechanic. (Granted in the case of Prey you did not have control over the portals like you do in Portal and it wasn't a puzzle game per say.)

Halo 3: Totally unhyped, top quality epic story line with overly brilliant campaign missions. Amazing character devlopment and absoloutely astonishing weapon design and AI. Unbuggy and clean multiplayer.

/sarcasm off

Although the multiplayer isn't THAT bad.
Ditto but without sarcasm

I loved "Gun" to death until I beat it, then I started running around with my seven barrelled cannon shotgun....with pretty much nothing to kill in a barren wasteland >_>

I'll gladly petition a sequel.
Third that. The last boss was a bit of a brick wall in terms of difficulty shift though. I got it off Amazon for Gamecube and played it on the Wii, 15 bucks. This may sound ridiculous but it genuinely reminded me of Montana when I was playing it in terms of scenery.
I think it is in Montana.

Circle of Doom, for me, felt a lot like a Gauntlet game. It would depend on if you like the genre.
I think I do like this genre; and it's not usually a big one with the critics. I like hack-n-slash games that involve a lot of killing and looting. Not only was I a NINETY-NINE NIGHTS fan but I also thought BALDUR'S GATE: DARK ALLIANCE for the Xbox 1 was fantastic (now supported, albeit pretty crappily, via back-compatability.) Loved Diablo II of course.

Circle of Doom should be showing up anytime, so I'll find out soon.

DEAD RISING is absolutely a great game, one of the best for any system in years; I just didn't think to include it at first because it seems to me it was pretty well-received. However, when I think about it it is still underrated. It should've beaten out bigger, more hyped games like GEARS OF WAR and OBLIVION for Game of the Year that year. There's nothing else quite like it. It's part RPG, part action sandbox, part story-driven adventure, part hack-n-slash beat-em-up; it's both incredibly fun, and highly challenging. I think some people were put off of it just because it was so different, and even for me, it took a little while to wrap my brain around the confusing save system, the linear-but-optional aspects of the story-driven gameplay, and really click with the game as it was meant to be played (i.e. you'll probably want to do multiple play-throughs, just levelling up your guy and concentrating on useful unlockables like the mega-man blaster on the first play-through and ignoring the main story -- this way, you also get to see the different endings, too.) And it's one of the few games I know where after you finally beat it "the right way," it opens up a whole new "overtime" game. But it's not just an extra mode, the story continues into it, and in fact you haven't really beaten Dead Rising or seen the end of the story until you complete Overtime. Then there's Infinity Mode after that or whatever it's called, but that's more just a regular "mode," not part of the story. Such a great game on so many levels.

I'd like to try ENCHANTED ARMS and LOST ODYSSEY sometime, too; they both seem promising to me. ETERNAL SONATA is beautifully designed but it's just way too goddamn linear and confined for my tastes.
