Jesus christ, this is going to be Call of Duty 12.

Who actually buys every Call of Duty every year? Well, I suppose that the answer is "the same people who buy Fifa/Madden every year".

14 really. Finest Hour and Big Red One don't seem to get counted as part of the main series, but they were on Xbox and Playstation so there's not really any reason not to count them. Throw in all the mobile and handheld games, and this will actually be the 23rd.

Just as there are some people who buy every Assassin's Creed, just as there are people who buy every Mario or Sonic ... it's a series, what can you expect? The people who like *insert title here* follow their series while the people who don't like *insert title here* wonder why they do. I don't get the whole 'Pokemon' thing, but that doesn't mean that Pokemon fans don't enjoy it.

Besides - as someone who plays CoD in a clan - I've found that the vast, vast majority of players tend to only buy the iterations from their favourite developer (Treyarch fans tend to skip the IW titles and vice-versa). So rather than buying every CoD every year most people I know of will buy a CoD every two or three years.

Is there anybody who actually buys all the different Calls of Duty?
I did, for some years. It was my yearly dose of big dumb fun. For all the flak Call of Duty gets, the games are generally well made and very enjoyable. I stopped after Black Ops II, though, so I can't speak for the most recent iterations.

I do, for pretty much the same reason I still watch the Simpsons: brand loyalty.*

OT

*Fingers crossed* Please be World at War 2 from the Axis perspective, please be World at War 2 from the Axis perspective, please be World at War 2 from the Axis perspective....

*Though of course, COD remains consistently enjoyable if not amazing whereas the Simpsons these days are often a crime against comedy.

There is a reason to not count them - they are ports. With some unique maps, but nothing else. Otherwise, you also need to count the WaW version on PS2 as that is also a seperate installment, then.

I just hope that the innovation that has been "loaded" into this game isn't the same innovation that Activision loaded Dungeon Keeper Mobile with.
Uh, yeah, Activision's Dungeon Keeper. Right.

Not that the actual publisher of Dungeon Keeper Mobile is any better, but you'd think an article like this would be proofread properly.
Damn. My bad. I thought i was making a clever zinger but instead I ended up with egg on my face.
Yeah, just change it to EA and it'll work.

ot: eh new year new CoD, it's the shooter version of Fifa.
Yeah except CoD promotes at best paranoid xenophobia about foreigners coming to take all our freedom and at worst jingoistic nationalism. I'm really looking forward to the day that this series dies or gets it act together.

Some.
Personally, I only buy the Treyarch games for the Zombie Mode and Singleplayer. Covers me completely.
Wait a minute. Hold your hippogriffs. What are "the Treyarch games?"

Honestly I feel bad for the developer. Activision is demanding innovation now that they said it, and honestly how much innovation can one come up with for an FPS that is released yearly? I am calling an in game cash shop right here and now for the innovation quota!

World at War, Black Ops, Black Ops 2.
You know, the CoD games developed by Treyarch?
Also the only games I willing bought the DLCs (again, for Zombies)

Also got MW1 and MW2 (those mostly because they were a real bargin of about 15? together back then. Christmas 2010/New Year 2011, if I am not mistaken)

I always assume that a misconception exists about the series and that because it releases a game each year it must be made that quickly. As of Advanced Warfare, the games now have a typical two and a bit year dev cycle being made by Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer Games and Treyarch.

Man, what is going on with the articles here? Just report on the news and move on. Stop trying to inject each one with a semblance of "personality". Everyone and their grandmother desperately wants to exclaim how much they don't care about CoD. Oh boy, aren't you special for not caring. What a badass.

And? That doesn't change the fact that I still only buy the games developed by Treyarch. I didn't buy MW3, I didn't buy Ghosts, I didn't buy AW and I only bought MW1 and MW2 because - as I said - I got them VERY cheap back then.
Which, of course, means that now I have to wait three years instead of two to continue with Zombies (but then again, Zombies is also keeping me VERY busy anyway)
Otherwise, I stick exclusively to the games developed by Treyarch because of Zombies. (And no, Exo Zombies is not going to cut it for me in AW. It not only requires the purchase of the base game plus DLC, it also looks like it's just a knock-off of Treyarchs version with less things in there and a complete seperate storyline)

Isn't that the same as every Call of Duty after 4? :D

No Treyarch no- Oh, wait, it is going to be a Treyarch CoD? And they had a three year dev cycle? Well shit, sign me right the fuck up then. The Black Ops timeline has been far and away the best of the recent CoD single player stories, and Treyarch proved that they actually give a flying shit in space about the campaign with how they went out of their way to give Black Ops II plenty of re-playability with the customizable load-outs, challenges to unlock new gear and perks, and multiple story endings. Hopefully whatever storyline they produce this time around will be good this time around as well.

Agreed on all points, CoD is media either being blind to the effects it's having, not caring about the effects or intentionally causing fear and hatred of anyone outside of the US.

I do like how they have Americans as the enemy sometimes, those are my personal favourite moments.
