Cigarettes in the METAL GEAR SOLID series!
* The select button
That is actually a fantastic point. Now that I think about it I've never played a game where the select button plays a major part, on any platorm.
On inFAMOUS, its the only way to call up the map. I think thats shared on a number of games.
On fable its the only way to save. I thinks thats a major part.

The radio thingy from DeadRising. It could've just as easily been a little HUD pop-up thing that told you about what was going on in the mall.

Screw you Otis, I don't want to talk to you.
He has a knack for calling while you're ankle deep in body parts too. Then gets pissy when you put the phone down on him!!!
Also does anyone else find the writing on it to be TINY!?

I know this isn't exactly relevent to gameplay but the skin tone appication in Fallout 3...I mean after you choose your main base to say peach, the other effect is so minimal. should it really be there if your options are light peach or slightly less light peach?

The button sequences in Ninja blade seem ridiculously excessive...I've never been to pissed with having them in games but this demo alone made me want to tear out my hair and run screaming into the night.

It is! I can never read what's going on... I've got a 50" TV and it doesn't help...

But for all it's flaws, I still love DeadRising. There's something about sticking a shower attachment into a zombies head and watching their brain spray out before they die that makes me feel warm inside.

The gimmick that it's trying to sell, ie: In Fracture that gun that modifies the geography, it's all the game is about really.

The masks from Dead Rising you can put on zombies theirs no point in that at all!
It's there to make you laugh. I mean who wouldn't laugh at a zombie with a serverbot head! They also used them (well the serverbot mask) for comerical, because it is capcom (for stupid people they made mega-man)

Yeah Otis should go and die. BUT in non-stop mode you can kill him! All he has is a frying pan. Ah sweet revenge!

Havok physics... when I can be killed by a spontaneous jerk of a cardboard box, it's time to build a new engine.

VATS in Fallout 3. it was just a cheap way to counter the terrible and non-fluent real-time combat.

75% of the options in the more intricate character customization menus. When you're playing Oblivion, how often are you going to be looking at the curvature of your character's cheekbones?

The wall crawl move in Mirrors Edge, which is pretty much a useless game in and of itself. They put it in there just to say "Hey look, you can run across the wall. How cool is that?" What it does in actuality is ensure you will die about 100 more times than necessary and prevent you from getting a good score in the speedrun. Shitty game. 1st person PoP? What the hell were they thinking anyway?

Telikineses in any game but a puzzle game especially when like in Bioshock the other options are : Freeze you're enemie set him on fire send bee's to hunt him down
I'd have to disagree with that, Telekinesis in bioshock was borderline overpowered, nothing conserves ammo better than shooting a guy in the head and then using his corpse to kill all of his friends. the only thing it was completely useless on would have to be big daddies, but afterwards you could use their corpses as mobile shields, and that was pretty awesome.

and as far as most useless items go, I'd have to say any form of tainted meat in the Monster Hunter series... I mean... you have to first of all, not be noticed by the monster already, and then you have to hope that they don't see you before they see it... it's not worth it.

After thinking for a few minutes, it would have to be the ability to make abe laugh and such in Oddworld-Abes oddysee
He did have a weird laugh though.

I'd have to say pretty much everything in Fable is useless. It seems to be something to do, but theres no real point.
