Mine would be one of the upgrades for the Peacemaker in Jak 3. It made it so that everything around you started floating around. I found it completely useless.
But that gun was fun as hell. I did use that gun at least three times during missions just for shits and giggles.

I would say the Pills in L4D. The only time it's smart to use them is if you're low on health at the very end of a level. Otherwise it'll just end up killing you later.

Does the Freezing Plasmid in Bioshock count? You get it (spending precious precious ADAM), you freeze your first enemy, then what? You got to shatter it before it thaws (meaning that it takes up your ammo), and stronger enemies take longer to shatter... And then you can't loot their corpse!!! Useless or what? (Also add the fact that instead of doing this you could have been burning them, throwing large things at them, shocking them, swarming them with bees or setting a Big Daddy on them).

I may have already said this, but the Replay in Viewtiful Joe 2. You get hit, you get 3x as much damage. You hit someone, they get 1x as much damage.

Cigarettes in the METAL GEAR SOLID series!
* The select button
That is actually a fantastic point. Now that I think about it I've never played a game where the select button plays a major part, on any platorm.
On inFAMOUS, its the only way to call up the map. I think thats shared on a number of games.
But is that really that usefull? Are you saying that that couldn't be mapped to a part of the start button or a d-pad direction.

Speaking of that, the d-pad isn't used that much in home-console games either, aside from commands.

The giant's knife. Wee, look at my big sword as I swing it around and-oh it broke. Now I have a two-handed stub blade... cool.

a bunch of people said the dog in fable 2 is useless and they are right he only gets you money and other useless crap like that
Peter Molyneux's idea of the dog was to stop people worrying about finding the best item in the cave, and enjoy the experice. Since it works most of the time, I think that the dog worked and was actually pretty useful.
