Most widely recognized gaming symbol

Whether it be the humble Star or Mushroom from Mario, or the Triforce from Zelda, games are full of symbols that any gamer can tell you about. So forum, whats your favorite symbol in gaming and why?

My personal favorite would have to be the TF2 Logo (The little crosshair thing), it's simple and perfectly symbolizes the game.

What I think most people recognize would have to be the humble Triforce, I mean cmon, who hasn't played a Zelda game in your life, even if you didn't like it

My favorite would be the Half-Life symbol. The most well known one I think is the CSS one.

But the most well known one is probably either Mario's hat or Pac-Man, though the second one is debatable given that it isn't actually a symbol, but the character.

The Nintendo Logo is the most well known symbol. Everyone knows about Nintendo, everyone knows a game, character, or franchise by Nintendo, and everyone knows a Nintendo system. Nintendo is iconic with gaming as a whole...sure, Playstation and all that might be well known too, but Nintendo has been going at it the longest and is dominating the market, which is why you will always see old people calling consoles "Nintendos". So ya...that my choice.

My favorite is the PlumBob from the Sims. The most well-know would prolly have to be Mario.

Coolest? I don't know, maybe N7 like on the Collectors Edition of Mass Effect 2.
Or maybe the Assassin's Guild symbol from Assassins Creed.

To the Lamda people, not many people would recognise that. A lot of gamers would but that doesn't make it the most recognisable.

Maybe most know Xbox symbols. To be honest I wouldn't have known either until I bought my 360.

Truthfully, it probably is Mario or something Nintendo related that most people recognize. Which is sad because Nintendo really holds back the industry by staunchly refusing to evolve it's model and it's technological approach; and by pressuring other companies to follow suit.

Evolving their 'technological approach' is exactly what Nintendo has been doing. They've been evolving like there's no tomorrow. Not trying new control methods and simply opting for the standard generational power upgrade would have been refusing to evolve.

More accurately, they are evolving in entirely the wrong direction and are now leading gaming down an unfavorable path from which we will have to endure this horrible Move/Kinect phase before hopefully getting back on track.

interestingly, the quake symbol immediately comes to mind, despite the fact that i dont care about quake and have never played more than a demo for quake 3.

i have to go with that, since its instantly recognizable despite being from a series i care nothing about.

No, the two above are my personal favorites. The two that I think are the most widely recolonized are Mario's hat and Pac-Man. I doubt many people who have never played on a 360 would know about those two symbols
