Have you ever gone into a Gamestop or some store and looked at the bargain bin, those games that were once great but now sit at the bottom of a bin waiting for someone to pay three bucks for them? I know all the worthwhile purchases of popular games (Mass Effect, Half-Life, Halo, etc...). But what is the most worthwhile purchase of a game you picked up on a whim. One you saw the cover of read the back once and thought, I have to buy this game.

For me it was Indigo Prophecy("Fahrenheit" in Europe), which i know is an odd choice. But i enjoyed it and played it through about eight times.

So what was your best impulsive and/or bargain game buy?

Never heard of it before, and bought it on impulse.

Best buy of my life.

Chronicles of Riddick for around $15-20

I know it doesn't sound like much, but guess what I got for the game when I sold it a week later?

$30!

That makes it the most worthwhile purchase ever.

Well I picked up Foreign Legion : Buckets of Blood for $1.49 during Steam's Christmas sale.
And I got Braid for pretty cheap, too. (Also Steam's Christmas Sale) And I got Burnout Paradise : The Ultimate box for only Seven Dollars. (Also also from the Steam Christmas sale)

I love steam sales, they're like regular sales only you don't have to leave your house.

Either Mass Effect (the original) for randomly unexplained half-price in Gamestation the week it was released (new copies mind, not pre-owned), or pre-owned Project Sylpheed for £10. Played through that 11 times, loving it each time.

Two Worlds

Probably Morrowind from the local pawn shop, they were having one of their 'Three xbox games for $15!' sales which was pretty cool. Got that, Destroy All Humans! and Jade Empire all at the same time.

I'd call that a pretty good deal all things considered.

My best deal would probably be Orange Box. I picked it up about a year ago, and have never played HL2 (I know, shun the non-believer) so that was great, plus portal, plus TF2, plus the HL2 episodes.

I don't go to Gamestop or any of the other big name stores now. I have a local console exchange that gives a lot more money for used games and has a 7 day $3 restock fee for used games and $10 for new games, if you sell them back in that timeframe... so if I don't like or finish a new game in 7 days, I can get all but $10 back, whic his a complete win for me.

That said, hmm... probably... wow, really can't say. I've had a ton of store credit there from buying new games and gotten a ton free. Best "deals" without involving credit probably come from Steam. I've gotten a ton of fairly recent games for $5 or even $2.

Actually, best recent deal was Bioshock 2 for 10% off with Bioshock 1 for free (Steam).

Last Christmas both Steam and Direct2Drive went nuts, dropping some 75% off the price of a lot of outstanding game titles.

More recently, I picked up the complete X-Com collection for $2.00. Sure, they're fossilized by today's standards, but there's still a whole lot of gameplay to be found there.

Last Gen: Ribbit King - I was really baked and in one of the local game shops (remember those?) and after looking at the case for 10 mins, I figured $5 wasn't much of a commitment. So I looked at the cover for 5 more mins. Then I started to feel hungry, so I bought it, and went next door to Kennedy Fried Chicken. My friends and I got a lot of mileage out of that game.

This gen - Sacred 2. Not a really interesting story behind that acquisition but I really like it. I enjoy it a little more than DAO.
