I'll be damned! First we bend over backwards to make sure we don't offend the Muslims, and now we have to put up with a moronic housewife that's offended by the very same religion we now cater to the most! (Christianity aside, of course.) Jeez, so what if it is pro-Islam? Islam ≠ Terrorists, despite the stereotypes the media constantly exposes her to. I vote crazy mom.
Since when do we cater to Islam?
We kind of did with the LittleBigPlanet delay.

Anyways, this is just another case of a stupid mom in my opinion.

I blame the monkeys. They force you all to fight with eachother and ignore their real threat, oh how you all shall feel so crazy when you see the light! Monkeys are coming, mwahahahahaha!!! You'll all see I wasn't crazy!

Yeah, it sounds like what she thinks, but like others have said, that is because you were told it's what it sounds like. It might actually be random baby mumbo-jumbo. It's like when people see faces on objects that are clearly not faces. You're pre-conceptualization tells you what is what.

So how does saying Islam is the light have any negative affects? All the mom had to do was say, "Thats just baby talk" and thats it.

Should've attached a poll for this one. It sounds like it to me, but a lot of those toys have horrible voice quality - and Baby Babble (tm) can sound like a lot of stuff. The fact that the doll AND game both have the same "saying", that is kind of strange.

Actually I did hear it. It seemed pretty clear to me, and it does sound just like the clip with the doll, same inflection.

Wouldn't it be funny if the developers had put it in as an easter egg about that Doll, and they had actually used the sound clip from the original news report on it.

Why am I reminded of an episode of The Simpsons?

Maggie: "Burp!"

Homer: "See? She said 'Burlap'!"

Marge: "Hmmmm..."

Everyone seems to be listening to the garbled dolls words, what I heard when listening to the 'news' report was the impending doom soundtrack they lay under the housewife's story. Listen to the deep sting that occurs right after the 'interviewer' throws to her (still avidly playing the islamist propaganda in the background). If she where in the water I'd be looking for the shark fin.

No one is hearing it say "Islam is the light," they are hearing it say that because they were TOLD it says that! It is the same to me pointing at a random cloud and saying "doesn't that look like a horse?" and suddenly everyone sees it because they were TOLD that is what it looks like. Yes, I think it sounds vaguely like "Islam is the light" because I was told that is what it is supposed to be saying...But in reality, I think it sounds much more like random baby gibberish.

My guess is that this woman is either a hardcore follower of, say, Christianity, or is an Islamophobe like so many Americans in the Post-9/11 era and she twisted her mind into thinking she heard "Islam is the light" because she has some deep fear or hatred of Islam. Really, it is just random baby gibberish that could sound like ANYTHING if you listen hard enough.

Like I always say...if you are looking for a particular thing, such as racism or some hidden message, you can find it ANYWHERE if you try hard enough. Give me enough time and I'm sure I could find Stalinist undertones in Pokemon or references to fascism in Disney's The Little Mermaid. It is just because the simple fact that, if you have some preconceived notion of what to expect or are trying really hard to find something, you WILL find it.

Really i think it's all a bit obsurd,
i mean this woman is obviously too intolerant to be able to simply ignore what's being said.
But personally, instead of it saying "is the light" i thought i heard it saying "(something) delight"
anyone else with me?

Certainly sounded like "islam is the light" but it's probably because you told me what it says.

I was more shocked over that the mother was upset. It seems as if she reacts only because it maybe eventually possibly says "Islam". Had the game clearly and intentionally said "Jesus is the light" would she have been as upset?

In Canada they've allowed Muslims to hold their own courts seperate to the secular court allowing Hades only knows what kind of things to happen.

There's probably a good explanation as to why the two toys sound so similar... Any time a company needs to come up with sound effects, whether for a game, music, toy, movie, or anything else that may need sound effects, there is a large pool of generic sound effects. Some of them are highly identifiable, and can be found in hundreds of different places. Crowd noises, screams (one comes to mind, the guy in Return of the Jedi, being thrown off the sand skiff in the fight over the sarlaac pit... That's been recycled thousands of times).

Simply put, that is probably a generic baby-gurgling/cooing/noise-making sound that is identifiable in several other places as well.

But you can bet your ass that after all this negative media attention, the powers that be will likely remove it from the generic pool.

And what would the mother have done if it had said something about Jesus?
Nothing, because the Christian Extremists don't suicide bomb your house.

I think it only sounds like "Islam is the light" because of the fact that that is what you are expecting. This lady was probably (as said), a bit of an Islamaphobe. And even if that IS what it say....who gives a toss! Do you really think a kid is gonna go "You know what? YEAH! Islam is the M'Fing light!! I'm going to join the ranks of Islam. This is all just plain scare tactics and Xenophobia.....and God bless America for it :p
