Mother Forces Teenage Daughter to Get Pregnant

A woman desperate for another child forced her 14-year-old daughter to get pregnant using syringes of donor sperm, a British judge said.

In a ruling reported for the first time Monday, High Court judge Peter Jackson said the mother had behaved in "a wicked and selfish way" that almost defied belief.

The judge said the woman, an American divorcee living in Britain with three adopted children, hatched the plan after she was prevented from adopting a fourth.

The scheme involved getting her oldest daughter to inseminate herself with syringes of sperm purchased over the Internet from a Denmark-based company, Cryos International.

Jackson said the daughter, identified only as A, "became pregnant at the mother's request, using donor sperm bought by the mother, with the purpose of providing a fourth child for the mother to bring up as her own."

In his ruling, the judge quoted the teenager as saying said she was shocked by the suggestion, but thought, "If I do this ... maybe she will love me more."

"My mum is a very determined person and she does her best not to let anything get in her way if she wants it," the teenager added.

The judge said the mother also made the teenager use douches of vinegar or lemon and lime juice in hopes of increasing her chances of having a girl.

The judge said it was likely but not certain that the daughter soon became pregnant and suffered a miscarriage. After six more attempts with the donor sperm, she gave birth to a baby boy in July 2011, when she was 17.

But midwives at the hospital became alarmed by the odd behavior of A's mother. Her daughter wanted to breastfeed the baby, but her mother said: "We don't want any of that attachment thing."

The hospital alerted the authorities, and the children were taken into foster care. The mother is now serving a five-year jail term for child cruelty.

Details of the case were heard during proceedings at the family division of the High Court over the children's future last year. They were reported for the first time Monday after several British media organizations, including the publisher of The Guardian newspaper, challenged reporting restrictions.

So yeah, I guess I have a knack for finding totally fucked up news stories. I honestly can't believe it took 3 years of attempted pregnancies for anyone to find out something fucked up was going on. And to be quite honest, this woman needs a serious mental evaluation. 5-years in prison? Why don't we trade that in for a looooong stay at the loony bin.

Cue the inevitable "this is just a sign of the times" comments. Personally I think we hear more about crazy stories like this because waaaaay more people are reporting on it than there used to be, not because of an overall increase. We had insane people 200 years ago, insanity has just taken on new forms with time.

So yeah, the world moves on. I don't like that it happened and I'm glad that the mother was arrested but I'll likely forget about this one in a month or two. I'm not too shocked about it. Guess I'm hearing about this kind of stuff too often.

I mean, yeah, sure. If you consider free time and general sanity to be a hole that needs to be filled in. I keep hearing the statistical average complain about raising *one* kid is hard as fuck nowadays, what with everyone and their mother diagnosing ADD or prescribing Ritalin, and how we're all pushed into considering that an idle kid is an unhappy kid.

I have people from the US and other countries make fun of me for being from NZ, everyone makes fun of everyone. But the US has a become a target more and more lately because it is seen as (note: this is not my opinion) a country that likes to stick its nose in others business and call them on out on things. People feel like they have to get their own back, to maybe let them know how it feels perhaps? That said, a lot of crazy shit has been hitting the news from the US lately, so that makes it easier for people to target. You're from a big country that influences a lot of others, it may be something you have to get used to my friend, not saying it's right.

You may not see it, but I have seen members from the US make fun and be rude to people in other countries in my years of being on this forum. It comes with this freedom of speech territory that your country defends, that you will see this from time to time. Please forgive me if this comes across harsh, I did my best to illuminate this in the friendliest way.

EDIT: As Legion above me points out, the person who said what you quoted is American as well. That said, I do see quite a few more comments of this type popping up and I doubt most of them are from the USA.

I honestly can't believe it took 3 years of attempted pregnancies for anyone to find out something fucked up was going on.

The daughter was in on it (in a really sad way) so she wouldn't have told, and I would think that the younger children would have been in on it (or at very least kept out of the loop) so it isn't that surprising.

It was sheer luck and diligence that the midwives were able to pick this up.

There's not much else to say except...sweet jesus, I'm pretty sure this fits as a backstory for the birth of a slasher movie villain. There's crazy, and then there's multicoloured chainsaw crazy.
