It's that time of the year, it only comes around for a few weeks each year so we have to make the most of it (summer, in the UK)

I haven't got a hope in heck of sleeping at night without both of my windows wide open, but of course moths being the clever sods they are decide to fly into my room when the light is on, totally ignoring the curtains I have drawn in my futile attempts to stop them from harassing me.

So I put to you, what's the best way to get rid of/stop the Moth menace? Spiders are already a ***** but god dammit, I hate these moths with a passion. ESPECIALLY the giant ones that make a 'thud' when they fly into something, because they all fly like flippin idiots.

EDIT:

I don't bloody believe it.

Almost the second after I hit the 'post' button, a fecking giant moth just flew into my room. But NO! You wont fly back out the window or through the giant open door I just left you. No that's fine, go back to flying into the fecking wall and the lightshade, it's not like I care anyway.

I never have any trouble with moths, all the geckos in my room eat them.

I just wish the geckos would stop shitting on my pillow.

A big shoe or a rolled up newspaper should help get rid of them. If that doesn't work, a little fire will put them in their place.

Or you could try moth balls or cedar. Generally takes care of them.

I've noticed that, along with AC, screens are in short supply in European households. I'm gonna assume the OP can't just go to Home Depot and buy some screens...The thing to do would be to turn off the lights before you open the window.

Flyscreen? Maybe? I'm just sayin'.
Well if I close the windows, it gets really really hot and stuffy and I like the cool breeze. The flyscreen was the obvious idea BUT it turns out (since its a rented place) I am, for some reason, not allowed to make any structural changes to the place without approval. Which is very silly because its a goddamn flyscreen :/

... WHY DO YOU HAVE GECKOS ROAMING FREE?

Erm, OT:

Either get a screen or a pair of balls. And by of balls I mean a can of deodorant and a lighter. Works just fine for me. DIE MOTH SCUM! DIE!

Edit:

Get a cat

Edit edit:

OR, right, a fan. Then you don't have to open windows.

Edit edit edit:

OR you could turn the light off before opening the windows. They're attracted to light after all

Now you just need to get some chimpanzees or something to deal with the geckos.
(the next person can decide what to use to get rid of the monkey problem you will then have)

Screens on short supply in the UK? I can't imagine why they're not more popular. Great inventions they are.

I suggest keeping a fire going outside your windows. A large fire.

Short of summoning Cthulhu I think i've done all that I can. I've sung, chased, mothballed, flamethrown and even cried my way to futility.

Close you windows. That's how I deal with insects of all kinds. I open my windows when it is windy or rainy.
I hate hate hate all insects. I actually also bought a fly-screen. Waiting for it to arrive. Oh how I hate insects.

I'd ask for approval for that then. Flyscreen is something every house should have.

A cat. Cats murder everything. Screen windows are a less aggressive and furry solution. You could also tack up some mosquito netting over your windows, after you open them.

I have. The problem is the landlord is in Spain..eating fish or something... The point is he's away and "cannot be contacted" till mid July.

The bastard..

And yes, ive e-mailed everyone in the contacts list about the problem and all I get is a "wait and see" response.

considering the OP is a brit, that may be stereotyping...
OT: punch the fuck out of them. or, y'know, close the windows.

So don't put one in the window, just put it over the window hole, should cut down on bugs dramatically anyway. Consider yourself lucky you live somewhere that apparently lacks mosquitoes.
