Sorry I come from playing tennis for fun in real life is better than a guy on screen doing it awesomely.
I hate this argument against sports titles. I don't know about you but I suck at football, tennis, golf and athletics. I'm unfit, I smoke too much and I'm lazy. The thought of doing these things in real life makes me feel sick. I know I'm not alone. The reason I play sports games is because I can't do sport in real life. It's no different from you playing Halo because you can't be a gun toting spaceman in real life.

Actually really annoys me...."Well I actually play football in the park because there's no substitute for the real thing.....fnar fnar bla bla."

Well, the way i see it is that you don't actually have to join up a team and compete or any of that crap. I too suck at sports but i atleast shoot some hoops every now and again. I may suck at it but atleast i'm actually doing SOME activity.

Twilight Princess does it right, in my opinion. Or at least close to right. I played the game through (I'm playing it again, as well), and I found the controls responsive and intelligent. They really helped to immerse me in the game.

I think Twilight Princess, No More Heroes, and RE4 Wii Edition all incorperate the Wiimote/Nunchuk well, however, some games just can't implement it *cough*BRAWL*cough*
Also, about the soprt thing, if you enjoy playing it on the Wii, great. If you enjoy the real thing, even better.

See the problem is that the Wii has the best motion controls but the worst hardware to harness them. If it had hardware on par with the PS3, then it would probably be able to capture actual movements instead of just replacing button presses with directional waggles. Kinda like the motion capture used in development/hollywood, but less ridiculously perfect. And that would be sweet.

The box doesn't have much to do with it the remote its self is the problem and they are fixing this with motion+.

I never said I'm complaining about not getting onto to teams. I'm saying the joy of simulated sport is that you can enjoy the sport without having to worry about getting knackered, and being able to emulate what I see on TV with a few mates round.

Staying on topic, and the "why don't you just kick a real ball argument"; it's because if I kicked a ball in real life it would end up through someone's window, whereas with a videogame that same kick would take England through to the semi-finals of the World Cup.

Obviously I can't see a ball controller coming out, but if it did it would heighten the experience for player. Like a lightgun makes shooting games more involved and fun. Only with that you don't get people going "ugh just shoot a real gun". The reason we want to simulate it in our homes is because it's FUN to simulate it in our homes.

P
And some find actually playing it FUN so its a matter of opinion (P.S I won the World Cup with CANADA in one of those soccer games so I admit it can be fun/funny)

Motion sensitive control is an interesting idea.
And that's all it is, at this point. The technology isn't advanced enough to be accurate past the point of "Wiggle it to make it do something." The introduction of the Motion Plus for the Wiimote is a step forward, but it's still going to be a while before "Swing your sword" is more than "Wiggle the controller."

The technology for motion control just isn't advanced enough to be realistic yet. (Case in point: Wii Music)
