You should buy the game from their website here: http://www.taleworlds.com/
Cut out the middle man, support the developers directly.

Other than that, I can greatly recommend the game, and don't forget to check out the Mods section here:

It is VERY good. Probably the most consistently entertaining and satisfying multiplayer experience I've had.

Once you get over the terrible animation its great, and by it I mean Warband don't buy either of the other two.

Cheers for the help. Can you elaborate on why it takes so long to do one playthrough, and how cheats help?

I think I'll give it a try, been looking at gameplay vids for about 15 mins now and it does look really good.
the reason it takes so long (i'm going on my knowledge of fire and sword here) is it takes an ASS of a time to get from one end of the map to another, starting gold is hard to come buy and you have to wait for units to become available for purchase

Warband is totaly worth it. i have sunk a disturbing number of hours into it, and loved all of it. the amount of freedom it gives you is a bit daunting at first, but once you adapt it is awsome.

never got into with fire and sword as much. i reckon the gunpowdr weapons makes combat less fun (dieing from one hit across the map sucks badly) and its a bit more story driven than its precursor

I haven't tried M&B, Only Warband and With Fire and Sword, but they both kick some serious ass.

Warband is better in some areas than FaS but both are pretty solid games with Warband having a much more polished look and gameplay than the latter.

However, both are quite fun, and I've sunk abou 200+ hours into both of them.

I loved me some Warband.

There are also a ton of awesome mods out there for it.
I don't think the modding aspect of M&B Warband has been emphasized enough yet. It has some of the best mods you can get and Paradox is very much in favour of people coming up with new and creative ways for people to extend the shelf-life of this game.

Mount and musket (or what is now known as the dlc napoleonic wars) is probably the most popular mod, and for good reason. It completely converts the game into something else entirely.

I can't recommend Warband enough. Such an amazing game. I can't comment on the other two expansions though, as I haven't played them (no interest in the time periods). But yeah, Warband, fuck yeah!

I bought it on sale a while ago after trying the demo. The sandbox was a bit naff but the combat is a lot of fun.

A big YES, but if you do get it make sure to look for some mods as the vanila version gets boring after a while especially the 1st 2 games I'd suggest Prophecy of pendor mod but there are a ton of mods out there that you can try out.
